Add Aux to 96 Trans am stock radio.

I just bought some adapter that was supposed to plug into the 9 pin connector on the back. So far I've had no luck with it because apparently its not supported. Now I have two questions.

1: Can I pull the radio from a 96 Firebird (v6) and add the adapter

or

2. Can I solder an AUX port to the circuit board. I saw it happen on the 93-96 camaro and the 2000+ Firebird.

Is there anything short of using an FM transmitter for my car?

yeah, just buy an aftermarket head unit and be done with it. There's nothing else that comes close to matching the sound quality, believe me, I've tried it all.

have you heard of redirad? Sounds like a pretty great solution to me. I need to keep the stock head unit

I soldered an aux port to my 94 camaro stock tape deck and ran the wire through the back of the player, but it just doesnt have enough power for the sound I want. it works perfect for just general listening but when you crank it it clips in and out slightly. my ground connection to the amp board was iffy though so I'll have to try redoing again, may just be my issue.

I used one of those radio shack speaker jacks and connect it to my iphone.

i might try using a newer tape deck before I go aftermarket. just hate the way they look though ugh.

I've been adding aux inputs to these 3rd and 4th gen radios for quite some time. Soldered directly to the radio board, breaks the signal before the amp section. All the volume you want.
