I would like to add an alarm and keyless entry to a 1999 Z28 that didn't come with power options. Don't care about having the switches inside on the door panels, I would just like to add actuators in the doors for a keyless entry and a good alarm. What recommendations do you have? Do you know if the car is pre-wired for these accessories?

I would like to do it myself.

Not sure about the different options with alarms, but would be interested in hearing your recommendations. I haven't looked into aftermarket alarms in a long time.

What about the hatch if I wanted to add an actuator to it? Do I need to find a motor from a salvage yard?

I would suggest something like the Viper 350HV. You will need to run your own wires into the doors for the lock/unlock actuators since they are reversing polarity which is different from the factory wiring. For the hatch pop I would get a motor assembly out of a wrecked car and wire it up. Shouldn't be too difficult with a relay once you find the motor wires.

 

That's what I was thinking, just wire the actuators up completely separate from the factory wiring, just through the new alarm system.

Any universal door lock actuator kit on ebay should work just fine. Otherwise you can get them from just about any place that installs alarms, but they'll run about $25 a pop.
