99 SS Double Din Install
99 SS Double Din Install
Spent my friday installing a new stereo in the camaro.
I used a Scosche GM1599B (equivalent to the Metra 95-3302) mounting kit with a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT stereo.
I extensively modified the mounting bracket, but it got the stereo sitting on the bottom stock plastic like I wanted.
Then the work was on for the bezel.
Overall I have about 12 hours in the install, mounting, wiring, bondo, paint, etc.
Paint is rust-oleum hammered gray (more silver).

Thanks, other than the paint, I wanted it to look factory. Tried to smooth and blend the bezel around the switch locations to get a nice flow going. I was nervous about cutting it up, but no regrets here!
Other than it being the only luxury like item in the Camaro's spartan interior, it looks good.
I was thinking about getting one of those but ended up just going with the MVH line because it fit without modification. Might have thought twice about it had I seen this first but then again, I'd be nervous about cutting it as well.

I had figured if I messed up it was only 30-50 for a new bezel to go back to stock.
I really hacked up the bezel, but a couple hours with bondo and it looks like it was meant for it.

Re: 99 SS Double Din Install
Just like anything, someone, somewhere has done it first.
I read a few different installs on the web, then did my own since there were things I didnt like about the others.
I do have experience in composites work, but bondo is pretty easy to work with.

I was super confused when I first read that it took about 12 hrs to install.
