97 brake light socket

So i have a 97 camaro RS, and i was having problems with my right brake light, it only worked sometimes and finally stopped working all together, well i took it apart and realized the bulb was blown so prompted to remove it, when i realized the light bulb was stuck in there and the socket was corroded and i finally got the bulb loose and it ripped the metal out of the socket. so i went to autozone to get the new brake light socket and they want 53.00 dollars compared to all the other car brake sockets being roughly 3-10 dollars. any advice on aftermarket brake sockets? or could i use another gm socket? i know it may not fit in the hole but i create a way to make it fit. im just wondering if the wiring may cause problems, i was just going to cut and splice. any advice?

Lightbulb

Try the dorman #85866.
It should work I forget if I had to break off one of the tabs on the tail light lens I don't think you have to.
I have one on my 97 on the passenger side.

i had the same problem... i just baught one that used the same bulb, the only difference was that it mounted and it had 3 wires coming out instead of 2. but mine works fine now, and the new socket only cost around $7.
