6 3/4" speaker suggestions.want LOUD!
im not a crazy audio guy with amps and subs out the wazoo i just like to listen to loud music with good base and a crisp sound.i have a pioneer 50x4 headunit with 4 budget components rewired and removed the stock rear bose sub.i want to get 4 6-3/4" speakers for the front/back seats..
i wont be hooking up an amp so i want powerful speakers that will be fine just hooked up through the pioneer.i was thinkin a 2 or 3 way but dont know much about audio.can someone shed some light and steer me in the right direction for some components.lookin to spend 2-300 for the 4 speakers.thanks guys

whats the main diff between a 3 way and a 4 way speaker.i want a good quality sound throughout the range.id like a loud bass but a clear sound.what wattage should i look for also?
Re: 6 3/4" speaker suggestions.want LOUD!
i checked these out and they look pretty sweet:
http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=493
the peak is 220.should i go to a peak of 250 bc pioneer also has yellow ones that are that high and their 2 way speakers.

ok.. well, listen up... you may or may not want to hear what I have to say...
to start: a 2-way, 3-way, 4-way speaker is basically just how many speakers are in 1, 2-way - 1 woofer, 1 tweeter; 3-way, 1 woofer, 2 "tweeters"; etc..
I would not go with anything but 2-ways, the extra tweeters are not really needed in any application.
Your Pioneer 50x4 HU's power is not going to give you good results, plain and simple, especially if you want clean loud sound. Internal HU amps produce a very dirty signal, especially when driven to full-load, thus creating distortion and destroying your speakers.
If you want loud clean sound, you're going to have to head to an amplified setup. IMO, I would not even install rear speakers, and spend your $$ on a pair of good 6.5" front speakers (Alpine, JBL, Eclipse, Adire, Infinity, Kicker, CDT are all brands I recommend), a 10" sub with "stealth" enclosure and a single 4ch amp (2 channels for the front, and 2 channels bridged to the sub).
This is the cheapest way to give you a respectful system that will be loud and sound clean.
You will say why don't I need rear speakers; the answer is that rear speakers, especially full-range such as 2-way speakers do nothing but destroy how the music sounds; Think of at a concert, the voices/music come from infront of you, not behind; same concept you are trying to create.
I never run rear/sail-panel speakers in F-body installs, except for mid-range speakers in the higher-end setups; and they all still sound awesome.
This may not be the route you want to go, but if you go with just 4 6.75" speakers, I will almost guarentee you will be disapointed.
And depending on what you buy, you should be very close to budget, especially if you do the install yourself.

Re: 6 3/4" speaker suggestions.want LOUD!
well thanks for the info.what your saying makes sense and right now the speaker im leaning toward is the 2 way alpine type r.for right now im going with the 4 componants all the way around just bc im not really looking for a respectable system, just a decent quality sound.im not really into the whole sub/amp deal(rather spend money on perf parts) but if i did have the extra cash id def invest in a jl w7 10" with the stealth box.my buddy has a really nice setup with that and its AWSOME.but for now though i ll drop the dough on 4 speakers and it will just have to hold me over until i do a sub/amp one day.
just one question for ya though..how will i burn up the speakers just running them off the 50x4 head unit?thats the only part that worries me.thanks for the great info

Re: 6 3/4" speaker suggestions.want LOUD!
You won't "burn" them up persay.. you will just feed them distortion at higher volumes, distortion screws with the movement of the Voice-Coils and damages the "motor" of the speaker.
As long as you control your urge to turn the volume up to where you can hear the speakers distorting you should be fine.

after talking to my buddy who works at a best buy installing audio equipment he said i ll def get a cleaner crisper sound if i hook an amp up to the 4 speakers.he said any amp over a 50 watt should be fine.after i buy the speakers i just may end up getting an amp..thanks for the info fellas,i appreciate it.i ll be going with the alpine type r speakers
BTW any suggestions for an amp? the amp is just for the 4 alpine type r speakers.

FWIW, you can run a distorted signal into a speaker alllllllll day long and not blow a speaker. (Taking peak wattage into consideration) "Clipping" itself will not destroy a speaker. Only 2 things can do this; overexcursion (moving the vc beyond its operating range) or overpowering which can cause the vc to littlerly cook itself.
Without going into sine waves and such...when I talk about "peak wattage"...If your speakers are rated at say 50w RMS ...and let's say that they are rated at 80w "peak"
Let's also assume your amp is rated for 15w RMS and 30w peak, you cannot, will not blow your speakers.
If your amps peak rating exceeds the RMS of your speakers, then yes...clipping CAN cause damage since RMS (root mean square) is only the speakers handling over a given period of time and not a constant.

Re: 6 3/4" speaker suggestions.want LOUD!
so if the alpine type r speaker rms is 125 i dont want to get an amp higher than a 125 rms? what do i do if i have 2 sents of the alpine type r's and want to use just 1 amp for all 4.would i need a 250 rms amp?
Re: 6 3/4" speaker suggestions.want LOUD!
*shrugs*... I don't feel like arguing today... I've got bigger things that I've got to take care of but distortion can and does kill speakers... and I could take this to a level well above your head about speaker dynamics and sine waves and the such but I'm just not in the mood...

Actually...to get a better sound, buy an amp with almost twice the power of your RMS ratings on your speakers and keep the level lower. The more an amp has to struggle, the worse it will sound.
If you run a 200 watt amp at full volume on say...a set of 1000w speakers, you won't cause damage, but it'll sound like
I have proven this over and over again using a Crown amp running at 145w RMS and a EV Force i 18" sub which has an RMS rating of 350 watts. I've run it at full volume like this for as long as an hour just to prove myself. Technical BS:
When an amp has reached it's maximum output, the tops of the wave form will be chopped off, causing a non-linear amplification. This in itself does not cause speaker "destruction". Want to read up more on why? http://www.stekaudio.com/%60Speakers...20clipping.pdf
