2002 z28 speaker help
Recently I just purchased my first z28 camaro. It's a 2002 and i am looking to upgrade all my bigger speakers. I am currently at college and my car is at home, so could someone please tell me the speaker sizes in my car because i cant seem to find it online and i dont have my car to see it myself. Thank you.
Do you have 2 speakers in the hatch? If yes, then you have the factory "Monsoon" amp to contend with and have a total of 6 speakers. The factory amp is located on the right rear wheel hump tucked away in the quarter panel. If you remove the hatch/sail trim and pull back the carpet, you'll find it.
There's technically 4 in the front doors, 2x 6.5s" with 2 integrated tweeters (s = designation for oversized 6.5" A standard 6.5" speaker will fit with some modification. A 6.5s will fit perfectly with no modification)
2 low-range drivers in the sail panels, also oversized 6.5" (6.5s)
2 mid range 4" speakers in the hatch trim which are pasti-welded to the trim itself. You'll have a fun time cutting those out.
Crutchfield will tell you what fits in terms of depth and what doesn't (and might have exact dimensions).
If you're unhappy with the stock system, your best bet is to re-wire for regular 4ohm speakers and put in a new head unit.
***If you just have a standard 4-speaker system, then replace with 4x 6.5s (oversized) speakers. I had a '94 Camaro that I put a set of 4 polk db650's in, and it sounded great for just a speaker replacement.

thank you, yeah i plan on buying a new head unit and power 2 speakers off of that, toss the stock amp, buy a 4 channel and connect 4 speakers to that, then buy a sub and another amp to power that. i got quite the little project ahead of me
