1996 Z28 Speaker Replacement

I've seen threads relating to later model F-bodies, but I'm still unclear about replacing speakers in a 1996 Z28. I've learned from the Crutchfield site that the factory speakers (doors & rear panels) can be replaced with commonly available 4-ohm 6.5" units, but is it true that the original rear speakers are 2-ohm units designed specifically for bass reproduction? What happens if I replace these rear speakers with standard 4-ohm 2-way aftermarket units?

Will I lose both volume and bass? If so, is there a source for direct replacements for these rear speakers other than the dealer?

Thanks for any help,
Rick

On a non-Bose stereo, the speakers are 6.75 inches. I don't think there is any difference between front and rear. A lot of people don't even use the rear, as they want all the soundstage up front. Well, except maybe for a sub.
