10" Sub for JL Box

I'm need of a little assistance here. I'm running the JL Vantage box with a JL 10W4. I'm running a JL 500.1 amp into it but I can't turn the gains up because the amp is a bit too much for it. What sub would be a good fit for this box and my amp? Right now it doesn't take much for my speaker to make this horrendous popping noise when I turn it up with the gains below half. It hits ok but I'm searching for more....I guess I've gotten use to it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

you can try some Audiobahn subs. They usually don't require that much airspace and yet do have high power handling. Not sure, but I know someone here is using a Alpine Type R and they can handle 1000w max, according to their website, with 300wrms handling. That may work.

hey, I have 1 audiobahn sub that is brand new for you. It is model # aw1000. Its a dual 6 ohm sub. I bought it for my stealth box and hooked it up and sounded awesome until my amp went into protection. I didn't know that my amp couldn't handle a 3 ohm mono load, but your amp can handle that load, and this sub can handle that power. The sub was literally used for 15 minutes. I also live in CT, so if you are interested in the sub we can meet somewhere. $70 for the sub.

Thumbs up

I've heard the alpine type R in their box and it sounded pretty good

I think a great sub to go with that box and amp would be a JL 10W6v2. I have one in a stealthbox that is powered by an Alpine MRD-M500 that gives it about 500 watts. I am very satisfied with it for a single 10".

Matz94, can you really give it some some juice? I think that old 10W4 I have is only rated for something like 200 watts. It tends to make a popping noise if I'm playing something with some punch and I give it some juice. I'll take a look into that 10W6V2 and see how much thats going to run me.

Nieko, I'm not actually down in CT yet (still in Maine) but I'll be down there next month. Not looking forward to the move

Thanks for the help guys

BlackLS1Z,

The 10W6v2 can handle all of the 500 watts RMS that I feed it, loud and clear. I believe this is partly due to the redesign that uses some of the W7 technology. I got the 10W6v2 to my house for $325 for ravi@indoaudio.com. I'm impressed with it, but its only my suggestion. Actually, this sub-amp combo is in my 2000 SS that I own now. I post mostly over at http://www.fbodyaudio.com/.
