10" or 12" sub???

I'm looking into getting a new sub for my trunk in a truck box so I can have a little more room in my trunk. Right now I have a 10" bazooka-style bass tube which basically takes up the whole trunk. My question is will I be happier with a 10" or 12" sub? I listen to metal so I need the sub to bring out the drums which have sharp and abrubt beats rather then say rap/r&b type music where the bass is more drawn out. The tube I have now does a pretty good job of bringing out the double bass notes and such, but if I can keep the sharpness and clarity and get a little more punch with a 12" sub I'd go with that. Please advise and also feel free to make suggestions about brands of subs, lots of people seem to be happy with JBL. Thanks.

I would recommend 10s for you. With 10s you'll get tighter bass and a better response. This will probably be better for your music selection. It's also cheaper. Seeing how you're not a bass head, you won't need to spend all the extra money for a good bass system.

Hey man... it doesn't sound like you're a bass freak so a 10" should do wonders. As far as tighter sounding bass, there shouldn't be too much difference between a 10" and a 12". It really depends on the box, and if you're getting a truck box it probably will be completely sealed so that should give you tight bass. If the box is ported, then you'll have a lot more "rolling" bass which you sound like you want to avoid. My guess would be a 10" in a sealed box should do fine.

Sounds like you're a prime canidate for a stealthbox! It's a small sealed box that can fit on either the driver's or passenger's side. It fits right where that plastic side panel is. Makes use of otherwise un-used space!!! You can still use your WHOLE trunk area!!! JL and MTX make them.... but I recommend checking out www.subthump.com Try a JL 10W3v2 sub in it.
