I never stated the supercharged SS (which I assume you thought I meant), I said SS. Remember there will be a lower powered NA Cobalt SS available. This car, a base Camaro should outperform not necessarily the supercharged Cobalt. I wasn't implyinig an over the top performance coupe for the base Camaro, just a step up from the Cobalt.
Re: Zeta and Sigma
The Cobalt SS outhandled the Corvette Z51 C6 in the slalom...who says one car cant outperform the other?
Camaro should be able to keep up with the Mustang V6, Cobalt SS, Challanger V6, and other V6 import 2dr coupes. GM needs to stop aiming outside of a certain segment and look abroad. Dont look at the V6 model as just something that has to be done to push V8's, make V6 a real icon that people want to buy because it also has tons of sporty applications and performance.
And to step into another world I usualy dont think about, but...if Monte goes away, what car will Chevy use for Nascar?
I also would like a Sigma-esque chassis to underpin a Camaro. And I would LOVE for it to drive like a Caddy...a CTS-V Caddy

Re: Zeta and Sigma
I don't think it's a problem for a RWD V6 Camaro and a FWD Cobalt SS to perform about equal to each other.
RWD pony car and FWD tuner car are 2 different markets, I think they're enough apart from each other that it wouldn't hurt either.
I'm kinda liking the Monte Carlo quad-coupe idea.
I would like to see Monte Carlo return to RWD on a Zeta-like chassis, but maybe that's just cuz I like RWD cars. I think there is definitely a good business case for it to stay FWD, but I think a new RWD Zeta-type car would be a better car.
If Monte Carlo went away completely, Impala would become the Nascar car no doubt. But I just don't see Monte Carlo going away.

How many of you would actually buy a quad-coupe? It seems like something no one was asking for. If you want sporty (i.e. coupe), you are willing to make some sacrifices, namely the roominess and practicality of a four-door sedan. Is an awkward looking coupe with a bit better rear seat access really what people want?
I think quad-coupes are another novelty thing that's better on paper than when it comes to buyers plunky down real money. Maybe it's okay on an old Saturn economy car or an extended cab truck. But a sports car or "sports/luxury" coupe? I know I'd be more interested in an RX8 if it was a traditional coupe. And I'd bet the NASCAR faithful that currently buy the MC would be slow to embrace the idea aswell.

Suicide doors with a coupe roofline... like Saturn Ion Quad Cab...
Re: Zeta and Sigma
Yeah, some people would hate a Monte Carlo quad-coupe, that's why you make the feature optional.
No interest in the option after a couple years? Then it disappears.
I don't see the harm in testing the waters of the idea anyway.

The Mazda has 4 doors although the rear doors are suicide style door.

Re: Zeta and Sigma
My guess is that Camaro would be a highly styled performance coupe (ie: Mustang), and the Monte would be a personal coupe for people who need/want the big back seat, just like it is now.
Monte Carlo pretty much has the entire large coupe market to itself.
BTW, here's something intresting:
The last couple of years of Ford's MN12 Thunderbird production, the T-Bird alone was slightly outselling Monte Carlo. The following year, when Thunderbird & Cougar was pulled, Monte Carlo sales didn't spike with T-bird/Cougar customers.
The same thing happened to Mustang when GM yanked the F bodies. Again, no substantial increase in sales. And no one ran to Monte Carlo either.
Intresting.
