How is an NA 500HP small block gonna hang with a mid engined, twin screw supercharged 5.4 DOHC? The 03 Cobra block is good for up to 1000hp+ , the 5.4 DOHC has even more potential. Keep dreaming...

Exclamation interesting...

"Suck the doors off" is pretty bold. I don't know know if Lutz is being incredibly brash or if senility is setting in...If he just said "compete" with the GT40 (I'll never call it a GT), I could understand...This means this special model C6 will have significantly more than 500HP and at least equal handling to suck the doors off a GT40...In my estimation, say >550HP, <3050 lbs, and >1.05G...Lutz must be hiding some serious hole cards to make that claim. Does this mean a 7.0L Gen IV? A homologated C5R? Or does he have some inside info about the GT40 not performing as well in real life as it seems to on paper???

I've always loved Corvettes, and I hope fortune smiles enough on me that I can get one of my own before I'm in an old folks' home. But I have trouble believing the C6 will stay (relatively) affordable if they are going after the Viper and GT40...But Lutz seems to know a lot of things that we as a message board don't so I'll wait and see. And Lutz is spot on about perceived quality of imports and the protectionism of the Japanese companies and government with the Yen exchange rate.

I would've really loved to hear him at LEAST toss us a bone with a hint of a new f-body...And I think Coletti's pie-hole will be conspicuously quiet when asked for a response.

When that supercharged 5.4 is also making 500-550 HP in a car that weighs a few hundred pounds more....I wouldn't get all caught up in the words "supercharged" and "DOHC"...500 HP is 500 HP no matter which way you do it. Plus, the LS7 will be lighter, less costly and less complex than the GT's 5.4.

I do think Lutz was doing a stock-for-stock comparison.

Awesome article. I really like the "Suck the doors off both of those cars" comment. And he directly targeted the perceived quality issue that hinders domestic manufacturers.

to Mr. Lutz, I like executives of companies that arent afraid to come out and speak their mind on issues instead of just sitting behind the desk and not doing anything about them.

One of my perceptions coming back to GM after working for all the other companies is, this company has more smart people in it.

Remember... THERE IS NO CAMARO!

This article is pretty lame unless you get excited about a new corvette you can't afford. Where's talk of a new camaro, or any other affordable sports car that can compete with Ford's Mustang. I'm certainly not excited about the Malipoo either.
I'm going to have to buy a new car within the next year. It will be a sports car. As much as I'd love to have a Chevy, they just don't offer a sportcar priced lower than $30k. So I guess Ford will be getting my business then. **** on GM. They are going the truck/family car route.

So...you don't care whether or not the next Corvette is world class?

I'm pretty sure that the article is worth something, considering we've heard from the horse's mouth that the next Corvette is going to be bada$$ and that GM has taken great strides to make the quality of their upcoming cars superior than it ever has been.

And if you listen to those on here, hopefully we should have a new Camaro by 2007, sure it sux that we dont have one now but that was the old GM's work not the ones runnin the show now.

Go ahead and buy a Mustang Jason, in a few years when its paid off, ditch it and return to GM, by then they should have more sports cars available than you can stomach . btw, why not a 02 LS1? almost brand new, and better than any Mustang that can be had for under 30K.

Wrong website ***. The stangs have never been on the top of the heap and they never will be. (Just a little friendly reminder of what website you have set your browser to, its www.camaroz28.com)

All in good fun.... If its domestic, im for it. Happy motoring.

"And if the Z06 version of the C6 is not enough to do it, we've got a few tricks up our sleeve, which we're already investigating. But it will always be Corvette-based."

Im no rocket scientist,But this lil statement says something other then the Corvette Z06.Or a higher end model Vette. It seems like something better...........Maybe a GT40 clone!

kidding aside.Im sure Ford has a nice set of cards to play with just as GM.

Two words: Cadillac Cien

Remember that list of supposed "future production" GM motors that someone posted which included the twin turbo V12? What on earth could that be used in?

So the next Corvette sounds like it'll be pretty cool.

That's cool for magazine racing with my friends and stuff.

Unfortunately GM still hasn't come out with the "Hey here's the Solstice/Camaro/Affordable sports car!" so there's nothing here that really excites me.

I saw a billboard for the new Malibu and it took me a few seconds to realize it wasn't a truck.
