The Cygnet is being marketed for the UK, not North America. Gasoline (Petrol) prices are much higher over there. Therefore they're aiming at the current Aston Martin owners who also own a small car for their daily driver and limit useage of their Vantages and DB's for weekend/holiday driving. It gives the diehard Aston Martin enthusiast an alternative that doesn't stray away from the brand.

Consider it not unlike if GM were to offer a Mini-Corvette, or more correctly Tesla someday offering Whitestar as a counterpoint to their Roadster and Model S.

The only thing that doesn't make it stray from the brand is the badge on it. Your Corvette analogy doesn't hold water. You think a 4-cylinder Corvette would be healthy for the brand and widely accepted?

Seriously, isn't this why people took the anvil to the Cimmaron? Ok, I get it, plush interior - big deal. If Aston wanted to do an economy car, which is inappropriate for this brand to begin with, why not do it yourself from the ground-up?

The car has colossal flop written all over it.

Brits are also crazy about Vauxhall, any they're simply rebadged Opels and Holdens.

Vauxhall is not a world-renowned aspirational brand.
