Exclamation Yet another Chrysler LX thread (back sales, this time)

from Autoweek (June 21, 2004)
Dodge held 30,000 orders for the Magnum on Thursday, June 17, the Chrysler group says. Chrysler held 68,000 orders for the 300 last week. For comparison, in 2003 Chrysler sold 24,910 old-generation 300Ms in the United States

Chrysler has more 300s on order now (after just a month and a half) than the total of all 300Ms they sold last year??!

Chrysler has 30,000 Magnums on order already, and they just came out a few weeks ago?

For perspective, Chrysler is holding more orders for the Chrysler 300 alone than the amount of cars any entire GM division sells in a month with the exception of Chevrolet!

That goes without saying the Magnum's backorders already outstrip every GM division save Chevy & Pontiac.

I'm a big fan of the cars, but this is getting a bit weird!

The 300M was a dying car, in a dying market segment. When it premiered, its closest competitor was the Oldsmobile Aurora.

When we use the term order, are we talking about actually customer orders? Is there a an actual person's name on the order and a deposit being held by the dealer?

No wonder they are selling the Magnum RTs and the 300Cs for 3k over msrp in Hawaii.

True to that! More RWD cars and less FWD cars means a better automotive world in my book.

BTW I saw my first Magnum the other day. Really strange looking at first, big intimidating Dodge grille, high beltline, small rear windows were the things that stuck out about it. Still better looking than most wagons out there. Makes the Mazda3 hatchback, Protege5, Malibu Maxx and other wagon cars look pretty wimpy.

I have seen 3 or 4, the Magnum I saw up close was gun metal grey, the thing is big..almost Caprice looking big..its menacing..it was a SXT model and still looked real nice!

This car is turing heads and getting people back into the mopar delarships, along with the 300C..

WHY??

NO ONE OFFERS THESE CARS!!! PEOPLE HAVE WANTED A STATION WAGON FOR SOME TIME!! AND A REAR RWD SEDAN WITH SOME *****..GM COULD OF HAD IT WITH ITS NOMAD FROM A FEW YEARS BACKK...BUT NOOOOOOOOOO

and I am seeing alot of 300C's everywhere and magnums are getting popular...a guy I worked with was looking at a RX8, then saw the Magnum and said heck with the RX8 Im getting that..that thing is bad ***

Yes, by "orders" are we talking general dealer orders to stock on lots or are these all spoken-for cars already?

Spoken for, specially ordered cars =

Cars to pile up on dealer lots = :blah:

I agree there. I believe they would have had a big success with the 1999 Nomad and Rageous concepts

I believe these are customer orders....

There is not one dealer here, even those huge ones, that have anything more than 2 300's, or 2 magnums. And these are dodge dealers which usually have 50 of each.

My brothers co-worker ordered a 300c, he is on a 2 month wait list for a gunmetal grey 300c.

I saw quite a few 300c's in ny area, 3 in a day actually, 2 in 3 mins.

I am really sweating the Dodge Magnum in vanilla white. They look huge and intimidating, but I was driving behind one magnum in my caprice, and that magnum looks very sexy and low to the ground, the back end looks amazing! very slick! yummie....

Dealers are selling every one that touches their lots.

The dealer out here in Seaside, over in Salinas, and the couple I went to up in San Jose have a few each that they are keeping on the lots for demonstrations. However every additional 300 they get in is usually gone within a few days, so they are most certainly NOT piling up on lots, regardless as to who is ordering them.

The dealer I did talk to out here says there is about a 60 day wait on the cars (and I understand this has increased since then), and that beyond customer orders, they can't get any in for the lots.

I think that pretty much clarifies it.

After getting too curious I took a closer look. They are rather nice - much nicer then most of the other stuff on the Chrysler lineup now, and much nicer then the stuff of the late 90's. Nice cars, we'll see how they hold up over time now...

Yay for RWD and performance.

Biggest issue I see, is now if GM ever wanted to jump on the bandwagon as it always has, it'll come off as a "me too" car once again... I really wish the Nomad came back last year. *insert cussing here*

If theoretically GM had even 50% of those numbers on a nomad - one can only imagine the snowball effect...

I just hope the Magnum starts the decline of the SUV and brings back the station wagon.

Amen to that! Although I don't see the SUV craze going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe $10.00/gallon will do it.

Gas prices have gone down CONSIDERABLY. I topped off with 93 octane yesterday @ $1.89/gallon...

I dunno. The big sedan thing seems to be making a comeback by the looks of it. I havent heard anyone say they want an Expedition or Yukon lately.
