I am not sure where you are trying to go with your statement, but I would bet that a young guy (seeing that I am 23, I feel I can make this statement with confidence) would be far more apt to buying a Camaro than an Impala SS. I can tell you first hand from having gone recently to a primarily automotive school that there are almost no younger guys interested in the new Impala SS at all.

I'm 19 and I always thought the Impala, and the Impala SS were for older-but-not-quite-yet-retired folks.

Looking at the Lucerne I just have a hard time believing that Buick has very much money put into the 'new design' (relative to most new model releases), so I'd hardly say they're betting the farm.

The Lucerne could flop entirely and Buick wouldn't be any worse off than they were before, most likely.

Just that if new car buyers were more dense in <25 y/o's we would still have a Camaro around because salse wouldnt have been poor at all. Which tells us that expecting the <25 crowd to carry the Impala SS is even more unlikely.

I tihnk we're on the same page, I just sorta threw out an incomplete though. lol

My Big '95 Series-I, PA Ultra went 15.70's @ 85+mph, bone STOCK....
(BTW, subtract a full second+ for a Series-II Regal GS)

H Bodies? Which ones are those? I believe the 6000/Ciera class of cars were A Bodies. N bodies are covered with the Achievas. So pretty much, we have every basic type of GM architecture in long-term-abuse mode right now, aside from J bodies

Honestly, I am not aware of any dropping trannies. Mind you, we've been doing this for many, MANY years now...when I started there in 2000, the newest car we had besides the '94 Grand Prix (which was given to "preferred customers" ) was an '89 Ciera. We've had a mix of '80s 88s, 98s, Cutlass Supreme FWDs, mostly Oldsmobiles (being primarily an Olds dealer, these were the trades we got most often). I never heard of a tranny dropping or an engine blowing. The worst things were typically fuel pumps from people running them dry (remember, these are FREE cars...people get them on E and bring them back on E too!!!) and body rust. We had 5 Cieras at one point, none of which looked any good. The A Body Cieras are probably some of the most reliable cars GM ever built, period. Or at least they seem to be. With a mixture of 2.8s/3.1s/3300s/3800s making their way between the fenders for many years, they don't seem to die. I admit to beating the crap out of an '87 Ciera for about a week about 3-4 years ago when my old RS was in the shop...with about 160k on it at that point, I was really surprised how well it drove. We STILL get customers coming in looking for Cieras!!! They're one of the few cars that old we throw out on the lot instead of wholesaling...'94-'96s still bring average retail or more for us, and sell within a week typically!!

Other than oil every 3k, tranny fluid every 30k, the whole fleet just gets run to hell until something breaks. And even then, we put on the cheapest parts possible and throw them back out there

I don't think there are a whole lot of younger guys looking for a large sedan, period, so it's not just limited to the Impala SS.

That is very true. Although I must say that the Impy SS is very nice and definitely on my list to replace my Cobalt when the lease is up along with a Cobalt SS and if possible a new Camaro SS/Z28. Like older buyers, we young folk like style, comfort and reliability. Even though performance is a given and usually at the top of the list. Impala SS offers all of that along with more youth oriented vehicles like the Cobalt SS and so on. I would drive the hell out of an Impala SS but we'll see when I'm 23 and my lease is up. I just wanted a good, reliable, fuel efficient daily driver and when I have more money after college...wouldnt mind going a bit faster in one of the aforementioned vehicles.

I got an 86 cierra back in 98, the body fell apart but the engine still runs in another car. Now I have an 89 cierra, great cars no doubt. Buicks aren't supposed to appeal to camaro guys. There for people that want a cadillac ride for a buick price. I just can't believe the lesabre is gone. Its won so many awards in the last few years.

I would certainly think so, hell for $23,000 you could have a low 13 second | high 12 second LS1 Z28, for $28,000 you get a 14 second 4 door.

wow, when i just said that out loud i kinda just realized the Z28 is gone haha, now let me tell you in that light i really have no damn clue why Z's didnt fly off the lots

Just ran a 4.6 Mustang today in a red-light race, just edged him out, look on his face... priceless.(Oh, I was in the Park Ave..)
For another $500 or so you can run 12's with that 4-door.
(Pulley $100, injectors <$200, PCM reflash $200-to-$300.)SC-3800 Torque...priceless!..
I prefer the "Z" myself, the Muscle, the Sound, and handling...but you can't say all Buicks are for Geriactrics..

Correction: Only 99% of Buicks are for geriatrics.

someone mentioned about an automotive school and no one was interested in the impala SS.

Give 'em a couple of years after they've had a couple of kids..........

having a couple of kids tends to influence what you drive, you know..........

so, so true. That's one of the many reasons I don't want any kids, I saw what my dad/grandfather drove before kids, and after. No comparison.
