Would you buy a coupe based off the Solstice if it was called the Camaro?
Would you buy a coupe based off the Solstice if it was called the Camaro?
Would you buy a RWD super-charged 4cyl (v6 or v8 if physically possible) 2+2 coupe built on the Solstice chassis and if it looked like some of the more recent Camaro concepts that have been floating around here lately and if it had a $18,000 base price.
Would you accept this formula in order to keep it affordable or would you consider it blasphemy?

I thought that the Kappa platform was designed for 4 cylinder engines, thereby ruling out 6 or 8 cylinder choices. That being the case, I'm not sure that I would be turned on by a Camaro on this platform. From a purist's point of view - not necessarily mine per se - that's a bitter pill to swallow, given the reaction to some of the design studies that don't hint at anything so radical as dropping the LS-X engines off the plate.
To that end I personally don't see Camaro returning. At least in the form most desired by the majority on this board (IMHO) - if it is Kappa based.
All the talk swirling around about a Solstice-like Chevy Sportster - I believe that is the name being bandied about by some mags - seems to dilute the possibility of a Camaro return and it's impact. After all, how many performance coupes/convertibles can Chevrolet really bring to market without deteriorating it's own markets for each? That is an underlying reason why we won't see Monte Carlo, Chevelle and Camaro available simultaneously - isn't it?

It would be nice, but a v8 would probably destroy the weight ballance of the kappa chassis, which was designed and made to be like the european roadsters of teh 60's that were stripped down quick little go karts.
I still want a Solstice really bad. If they make the curve, Id buy that since it can hold more people.

Let's see.
Without the skin the Solstice looks almost exactly like a Corvette, it has double wishbone front suspension, a sophisticated rear suspension, & a hydroformed light weight chassis.
Assume it has great styling and accelerates like stink, is well made, & is priced along the price range with the previous Camaro
Not just yes, but Hell Yea!

I agree with guionM on this one. I would consider buying a Kappa based 2+2 sport coupe (reasonably priced and with exciting styling) right away - whether it was named Camaro or not.
Conversly, I would not buy a less-than-exciting looking, overweight, uninspiring (though technically fairly sophisticated) V-8 powered 4 seater just because it was named "GTO".

My sources have been telling me that a V8 will actually fit into a Kappa platform now. Previously my info was that it could only support an I4.
But there are some flies in the ointment. Kappa will only be able to support no more than around 300 hp. Also stuffing a V8 in it's snout changes the weight balance so dramatically....that it handles like an absolute pig.
See "Sunbeam Tiger" for reference.

The thing is, with what Chevy has already invested into Cobalt, I just don't see it flying, especially if all Kappa can support is a supercharged I4.
So what if a V8 physically fits? As you pointed out, the weight and torque may be too much for it, making such an option unobtainable.
Will the Solstice use the same Aisin 6-speed manual as the upcoming CTS 2.8 liter V6? I heard it would be the 5-speed Getrag unit, not the T-56 of the show car. I'm also wondering if the slushbox will be the 4L60E/4L65E, the 5L40E/5L50E or the delayed 6-speed automatic?
The reason why I'm asking is because the torque capacity of the gearbox says alot about possible drivetrains.

BTW anyone know the wheelbase on the Curve or Nomad Concepts? I know they were the ones with 4 seats instead of just 2.
I'd be interested in buying it, but not with a camaro badge
.
I'm sure the probe was a nice little car for its time, but it wasn't no mustang. Same case here. Solstice is a very nice little car, but it's no camaro.
Only way i'd accept it as a camaro is if they shoe-horned in a ls2, and a T56
