Winding Road admits they faked Vette SS photos
Winding Road admits they faked Vette SS photos
In the Jan '07 issue of Winding Road (pg. 75) it says they faked all the recent photos of that silver Corvette SS car.
Thank you for wasting our time Winding Road. Is David E Davis over there running romper room or what?

So not only did they screw with everyone by faking some photos, but the story is way off too. The story talks about the super vette like it doesn't even exist. Good job winding road.
Stupid and Wrong.
Not to mention their cover story on the "Ferrari Dino." A car that actually DOESN'T exist.

It's as if they ask for absolutely 0 credibility when reporting on the news. Am I to believe that every thing they say is a lie? Not smart.
What's even more ironic, that I just noticed, is the 2nd paragraph in the story says:
"Irresponsible speculation has been put forth by Corvette fanatics, magazine editors and competing manufacturers."
It doesn't get much more irresponsible that willfully deceiving everyone. We like to call that hypocrisy, Winding Road. Even worse, you seem to have willfully deceived solely to try and make auto publications you compete with look bad. You know, those magazine editors you talked about putting out the irresponsible information. You suckered Motor Trend, Autoweek and The Car Connection into running your fabrications. Those are just the ones I see after doing a quick search.
Totally pathetic, Winding Road. You may also consider trying to get some actual industry contacts for your stories. Then you might know the car is a "go."
Sorry to get so worked up over this, but hypocrisy annoys me to no end.

So are these real?

As for WR, I'm not sure what a publication has to gain from doing this "excercise." It seems like a pointless waste of everyone's time.

Yes those photos are real. I took them. Anyone who knows anything about GM prototypes will tell you it is a GM powertrain mule.
(Please dont post my photos however. If could edit your post to a URL link that would be great.)

So much for building up their credibility. If I'd had heard about the consumer plates before today, I would've questioned it as well.
I've never heard of Winding Road before this. I guess they did it to build a reputation. However based on the backlash they will surely receive because of this stund, I doubt it's the type of reputation they were looking for.

Wow, all magazine's credibility are gonna take a hit (unless this is swept under the rug). I know you're legit because I know one of your amigos, but there is gonna be some serious questioning for now on. We've all been trusting the enthusiasts [that get spy pics] more and more. Especially on this site after that Saleen Camaro spotting (there was no insider info out before his siting).
When I saw those pics I was wondering what the white on the door was for.
I'm sort of disapointed that GM didn't say anything though...hmmmmm

What did you expect them to say?
To be honest I expected a $100K super corvette to have some significant styling differences to the Z06. I was disappointed when I saw the photos as it looked like a Z06 with a hood scoop and bigger fender flares. Now I'm excited again.

The photos of the black lowered Z06 with the makeshift hood scoop was a real GM powertrain mule for the LS9 . The only visuals on that car are its extremely lowered suspension and the tacked on scoop on the hood .
