Will GM's 6spd Auto. go in the new Silverados
I was wondering (for those in the know) if GM was gonna step up in the next year or so and put the new 6-spd auto. in the new Silverados and Sierras with the 5.3 or 6.0 motors? This might bring them my business.

The Allison 6-speed is a large serious piece of equipment, a lot of weight for a small v8...unless maybe they get more of a car trans...I work on these on the assembly line all the time. It's on a matter of time anyways.

i think hes talking about the A6 that the cadilac and Denali GMT900's are getting, not the allison. And my guess would be yes, hopefuly by next model year.
Well, considering that all of the sneak previews and rumors and pretty much everything I ever heard leading up to its release said it WOULD have a 6-speed auto... I have to imagine that even GM was intending for it to have one at first. A lot of people here have said they had production issues and they expected resolution within a year's time. It is now a year since their release and still no word... so I dunno...
I remember being kinda shocked when the first test I read in motortrend magazine had it cited with a 4-speed auto. After all I had heard here I thought for sure either motor trend had made a mistake, or it was a pre-production design that was using some carryover parts.

Yeah, I am talking about the 6 spd that's in the Denalis and Escalades. Salesman at GMC told me this weekend that they should have new 6-spd trucks in by late summer / fall without me bringing it up. I was just driving one of the trucks around and said I wasn't gonna buy till this summer after I graduate and he said "if you hold out there should be a new 6-spd auto in these trucks". I was just trying to confirm.
I'd say its only a matter of time. I was waiting for my Tahoe to get an oil change this weekend and wondered into the showroom and drooled over simply wicked looking black Z06. (I'd never seen one in black up close, and this thing was simply awesome looking.) One of the sales guys said there was plans (or they are considering) putting the A6 in the Z06 in '08. If the Z06 gets an A6, I'd think they are destined to most other models as well.
Right now, only the Lade and Denali 900's get the 6.2 and 6spd auto.
With 6spd production ramping up, they should spread across the 900's. We are talking over a million 6spd autos, several variants, from a cash-strapped company that is trying to invest money into things as fast as they can rake it in. With MY08 coming up and MY09, we should see a broad-use of the 6spd autos. IMO, I think it should be a low-cost option. I think that people with work trucks might not want or need the option of a 6spd auto, but if they did, it wouldnt cost them that much to buy one, still retaining the customer from going to a Tundra.

I expect the 6.0L to get them first, then the other V8s and then the WT & V6 packages last.
Toyota only has the 6 speed in the 5.7L so GM really only needs to add it to there top of the line 6.0L right away to be on equal ground. Tahoe 5.3L should get it before the Silverados.

Until you can get a 6-speed automatic 6.0 2WD standard cab work truck from GM, and all the way on up the scale, it's not equal ground.
From Ive read , once the 6 speed is fully ramped up ...the 4 speed auto is going bye bye . When u consider the broad range of cars and trucks this is going into , I dont blame GM for slowly migrating it into full production . Considering the stuff that has it already and the stuff thats gonna have it , their gonna be cranking out ALOT of damn 6 speeds . GMT-900 trucks and SUV's , Corvette , STS , 08 CTS , pontiac G8 , All the Holden Zeta cars , the upcoming Camaro and RWD Impala .
