Will/Does HP per dollar matter (when modding) in your next purchase?

I know that this section in the board is the least friendly toward modifacations, but will this be a consideration? a tie breaker? I bring this up because I am starting to modify my 03 Cobra and I will be 10 K cheaper to hit my goals than I was with my 2001 SS. Thats a bunch of money. Just wondering?

Sounds like you're wishing you had bought/modified the Cobra first since the end results/goal would have been achieved much cheaper.

Well, i'm not rich (YET!!!!!!), so that'll always matter to me. But it wouldn't neccessarily be the deciding factor even though it'd be one of the more important ones. The rest of the car has to suite my tastes/needs. Other factors would include ease/availability of mods, potential, etc....

But....My next purchase (after finishing school) will most likely be a Saleen. Preferably a 95 S351. The 94 GT is nice, and i do plan on keeping it, but i'd also like to have something rare, different, and special for a change. Seems like that's high on my priority list as well. I'd most likely keep the S351 stock and keep modifying the GT.

But man....the 95 S351's currently cost as much as a slightly used 03 Cobra. Pricey SOB's.

The Camaro has moved beyond 600-650 rwhp that I am shooting for with the 03 Cobra. And to move the Cobra to the 750 to 800 plus RWHP that the camaro should get with a simple blower swap (d1 to f1) Would make the price gap in the 5-7k range. The stock longblock in the Cobra could handle that level of power but not more than a summer.(The monet differences do not include labor, the camaro will take 15 plus more hours of labor to reach the 650 rwhp goals.) My next toy car will have to come with a power adder from the factory. It just seems that they are over built....Supra, 03 Cobra ect.. The only thing that the Vettes and 4th gens have in favor is the pushrod motor takes less parts and less money in labor to build.

No, comfort will play the major role in my next purchase as I already have my fast car. If I get a decent job out of college I'll be looking at used Cadillac Escalade EXTs

The Z06 is gone and in its plae is the 03 Cobra and a 3 year old chevy Dually and trailer. My Wife really took a liking to the GTO so we may be selling the SRT4 next summer.

Well, how about power to weight ratio per dollar? or overall peformance ratio per dollar? But generally, yes, HP/$ is taken in consideration.. although probably a bit less now than it was to me 5 years ago (am I getting older?)

For example, if I decided to get something to replace the Camaro, then (HP/lb)/$ would be a pretty strong factor.... Weight is too though, since I'd like to get smoething a little lighter. its gotta handle too.. Thats were the Vette looks good, although I will be also taking the time to testdrive the other Import sport cars for comparison too.... and although the GTO is a little heavier on paper, I'd like to see how it really feels..

Or if I was looking for a sedan, then the emphasis starts shifting to comfort and space.. I'd probably go with a full sized sedan, since if you get 4 doors to hold people in the back seat, you might as well get something that'll hold people in the back comfortably. I always wanted an 94-96 B-body Implala SS.. Else it will be alot of test driving between all the cars, FWD, RWD, AWD..

Or a Truck, it will have to meet the work needs that I want, and have the gut feeling that it'll last and I'll never have to worry about it outside of normal maintence.. Obviously since I like GM, I'd go for a GM truck.... although I gotta say I'll also at least take a look at a Toyota truck... (but it would have to be drasticly better to sway me)

Those are the three kind of new cars I would be looking into about 2006, 2007...

I know for one thing, if I was buying a supercar, it would be a Mosler MT900S, cause if its low weight (2000 lbs) and would be neat to owning an American supercar...

To me it matters none.

We currently have four vehicles I would classify as "toys" for the most part. Three of them are basically stock and don't have a significant amount of horsepower (although they're all American V8s). The fourth car has a significant amount of horsepower (supercharged '96 Mustang GT) and although price/hp was a factor in me actually purchasing the car, it wasn't the deciding factor. (It was simply too good of a deal to pass up and it made my son happy.) Ironically, although its also the most radical car we own, its the only one that is technically a daily driver.

All I know is my next "toy" purchase is going to be a Camaro.
