Why does the press hate US vehicles?
Re: Why does the press hate US vehicles?
Oh and on the drunk driving thing that someone mentioned. This was in autoweek so I don't know much about it other than what was printed there. It seems GM has worked with MADD for some time now to help bring down the # of drunk driving deaths. Do you read that in the left wing press? I never did, or how about that they are under attack from some beverage institute for helping promote designated drivers or something like that. Anyone else know more about this, it was just a small article, that's the last I've heard of it.

Of course you won't read about something like that, unless GM PAYS to run an ad in the media. But nobody will write an article about it for merit alone.

Ford also is a HUGE sponsor of MADD, and Ford has been pioneering zero-emission vehicles for US Park Service and land management groups for years. SAME DEAL... press won't give it a blink, but they are first to jump onto Ford for not making the Excursion break 30mpg by 2005, and "allowing" Crown Vics to catch fire when rear-ended at 70 MPH OR MORE.
It's like Don Henley's old song says, "give 'em Dirty Laundry".
That's what sells.
Re: Why does the press hate US vehicles?
Thanks, ain't it a bitch though, that they can't print the good as well! I know the song well and we do love the dirty laundry don't we! I would buy the paper just as quick though if there was an article about GM or Ford that was positive! I guess they don't think that way. Their agenda is clear, so they've lost a customer in me! You hear that media giants I am SALIVATING at the thought of your demise.
Much the same as you are SALIVATING whenever the big 2 or the US does badly. Media elite, BITE ME!

Re: Why does the press hate US vehicles?
Anasazi, since you seem to think you are correct no matter what reality says, I will quote a phrase you posted.
Appx 3 years ago, BMW's were burning down. They were doing it while driving, and they were doing it sitting in the garage in the middle of the night. A recall that started with one model, soon turned into a recall of all BMW models, since it was the ignition switch that was causing the problem. These were all current model year vehicles, at the time.
Do you remember about that anywhere???? I seriously doubt it. There was one article in one magazine, that asked the very same question that Proud is asking. Where is the outrage??? Where are the headlines??? Where is the lead story on the nightly news??? They came to the same conclusion that Proud has. Due to the fact that BMW is a media darling, they can do no wrong. Even when they do wrong, they can do no wrong. And when this fluke of nature wrong thing happens, noone will know about it, except those whose houses burned down.
If you want to investigate auto fires, all you need to look at is ignition switch issues. Everyone has had them, and everyone has had fires. GM recently had the issue also............ as has pretty much every other manufacturer. All of these vehicles could catch fire sitting in the garage................ at 4:00 in the morning.
The point is, the media will go out of its way to report anything negative about GM or Ford. They will slant words, and "interpret" results to support their preconceived notions about the domestics. This reeks of media sensationalism, and has lowered my opinion of the press even lower than I have thought in the past. To me, they are not much better than the National Enquirer.
besides, how many other vehicles produced within the last 10 years will burst into flames at 4 o'clock in the morning and burn your house down while your sleeping? not the CR-V ...

Re: Why does the press hate US vehicles?
I remember the BMW thing too, I think from AW. They are usually pretty good with running that stuff, though I wasn't pleased with the GTO vs. Mustang bologna they ran. Some ppl buy everything the press is sellin' but not me! They can go sell it somewhere else!
( No good bums).
Not Autoweek though, they did give the Cobalt a proper reveiw at least! I did send them an email though, to let em' know the GTO/Mustang thing was BS.
I haven't seen it printed, but I doubt they would it was my usual long winded letter.

More than just a rumor. And perpetuating it is what I aim to do. I'm going to throw this into the face of everyone I can.....especially those who might be in a position to affect a decision.

Well, that's exactly what happened... nothing.
This morning I am reviewing some news from the weekend, and I come accross this article about an investigational probe into the ALREADY ANNOUNCED RECALL of Ford trucks and SUV's.
Yes, you read that right, already announced. For d has voluntarilly recalled 750K trucks and SUV's to have a connector replaced on the cruise-control module. Now the NHTSA is conducting a probe into what additional vehicles might have the same issue, with 100% cooperation from Ford no less, and out comes this story.
The press is so kind to Ford that hey offer the maximum number of vehicles could be 3.7-million vehicles... in the TITLE of the article.
So Mercedes can have a full-blown recall for 1.3 million vehicles, and they get the same press coverage (if not less) than an INVESTIGATION into a US manufacturer.
There's something wrong here.
After seeing this and reading what's going on lately, I have to take a big hats-off and a
to Bob Lutz for blasting the media last week, and to GM for taking action against the media for publishing the trash and sh1+ they put out lately. I can only HOPE that Ford grows ballz and takes the same stance. Dodge would be well-served to do the same too.
Just as important as freedom of the press and freedom of speach, is the freedom to report all activity in equal light and with equal billing.
I guess these flim-flam press writers are afraid they will either lose their comfy rental appliances supplied by the importers, or they are afraid nobody will believe them if they publish how sh1++y the import vehicles are getting these days, so they fall back on hounding the good ol' US guys in order to sell a rag or fishwrap.
Know what? IMO, they can blow it out their *****... for every stoopid article I see against a US brand vehicle, I will post and find 2 about the imports. AND, I will bring more resolve to spend MY money on US-based cars and trucks.

I especially like the last part, about buying American cars. To answer the question why? Because its the popular thing to do? Where have you been??
