Why is the camaro comeing back but no Trans am?
Why is the camaro comeing back but no Trans am?
Why would u bring back one version of the F-body but not the other? I mean the camaro and trans am were of the same mold. I can understand that they have the gto now, but why not have multiple RWD Performance cars? Like back in the late 60's early 70's. With the GTO and trans am together. Or how about chevy with like 6 different performance RWD cars, liek the chevelle, Camaro, Monte SS, Nova SS, Impala SS, Malibu SS? I mean it just doesnt make sence, why not make more of what people like (power and fun). U cant put a v6 in a car and call it sporty based on that. And what is up with the SS concept? 4 doors? I mean come on, its not a super sport, its a family car meant to make some dough of the SS name.

People love the new Impala, for example, as evidenced by their outstanding sales records. That's why GM added a shift to the Ontario plant where the Impala is built; to build more of them.
And although we sports car enthusiasts would love to see everything V-8, RWD, manual shifted, with only 2 doors, we are a VERY small minority. The majority of people nowadays want room, comfort, economy (relative for the class of vehicle), and reliability. If the manufacturer can throw in some sporty pretenses while they're at it, all the better. Let's face it, the taste of American car buyers has changed over the last 30 years.
While WE would LOVE to see all those RWD cars back in the showrooms, the majority of the car buying public would not touch them with a ten foot pole. Oh, they would like looking at them and such, but when it comes to purchasing time, they're buying something more sensible.
And alot of people do like power and fun. They just can't afford it. Whether it's the car itself or the insurance. Performance costs.
I agree with you that it sucks when a manufacturer takes a hollowed name & sticks it on a FWD, V-6, 4 door sedan, but they're in it for the money and only the money. If it makes them an extra buck, they'll do it. That's the beauty of capitalism.
Back to your original question.
As of now, there is no official word on EITHER the Camaro or Firebird. My guess is that they're both coming back. The only questions are, when and in what form?
The firebird used to be different from the camaro in more htan just the body, granted chassis were shared but it came with its own motor line. Today there's a ton of cannibalism among the cars, its cheaper just to make 1 version of it if the buyers are all going to be the same. I hope the Firebird comes back, but I'm guessing that it's either a GTO replacement, or its not going to be the same as the camaro, maybe not even the same chassis, or if so, might have it's own distinctions in order to bring different buyers towards it, ones the camaro misses.
