1. I expect that Volvo will soon dump GM's 4-speed auto in favor of the 6-speed Aisin-Warner slushbox.

2. The normally aspirated S80 I6 has always been a pig compared to the T6. In the XC90, even the T6 wasn't enough motor.

You're right again, but the a big reason the Daewoo I6 ended up being so small in displacement is that it's been in the pipeline for the last decade or so. It has only been in the last 3 years or so that 3.5 liters of DOHC V6 seemed like a mainstream powerplant. I suspect that original target of the Daewoo built Verona was a mid-1990s Sonata.
