Why is the '05 ZO6 a hatchback?

And not a Fixed roof coupe? Was it just to save cost. Cuz the C6 doesn't have a base car with a fixed roof coupe.

I think hatches are more useful anyway.

No bad thing in my view.

I still say that the only reason the C5 Z06 was the hardtop is because the LS1 hardtop failed miserably, and it was a way to "save face" on building the hardtop to begin with.

Too many people bitched about the styling of the hardtop Z06, I'd guess (though I absolutely LOVE the C5 Z06 styling personally). By the way, the new one is still "fixed roof", but with a normal coupe-style glass hatch. On a regular C6, the roof panel can be lifted out (targa style), just as on the C5 coupe. The new C6 Z06 shares the same roofline, but that roof is permanently affixed to the car, for improved structural rigidity.

I too like the look of the C5 non-hatchback fixed roof coupe.

I did know that there was no targa top on the C6 ZO6, so maybe I shouldn't ahve said fixed roof coupe, but youknw what i mean...right.

the hatch bodystyle has better aero and high-speed stability

To be honest... I like the hatchback much better than the fast back on the C5 Z06. I've always wanted the Z06 to have the hatch.. and now it does

Bottom line... Z06

And I think we can all agree on that.

The C6 Z06 does have a fixed roof.

I meant fixed roof like it was in the C5 (no hatchback with a trunk) sorry for the confusion.

I think the word you're looking for is "Notchback"

the sloped rear glass helps lower the drag coefficient better than the FRC does. but yes, as stated it is still fixed roof, and [i think] the glass is fixed too.

Yes, the hatchback design is more aerodynamic, which is why they went with it.

I thought the hardtop was the coolest C5 bodystyle, even before the Z06.

Damn straight!

Still with 500 HP on tap and track usage a given, I can see why GM went with the hatchback aerodynamics for th C6 Z06.

Course, the aesthetic side of me would've prefered the C5 Z06 notchback styling to carry across to the C6. Then, add a functional wing for added downforce along with canards for aditional stability at high speed (a wing could hardly be called rice with 500 HP on tap) for track usage.

One thing for sure though, the hatchback glasss will make cleaning the rear glass easier. No more climbing into the trunk all the while cursing like a trooper for me (should I ever decide it's worth living on mac and cheese for 2 years).
