Who else saw the Z06 and C6R unveiling?

Some impressive numbers mentioned!
"1/4 Mile times in the Mid 11's at over 120 MPH."
"~6.28 pounds per horsepower." (I think that's right).
"Top speed in excess of 190 MPH."

VERY IMPRESSIVE!

(This is the first time I have officially heard GM mention those numbers anyhow - I know rumors have been out for while now).

How's about lbs per Horsepower, not horsepower per lb? Othwerwise its got 19,656 horsepower, which would be nice... It was a nice presentation and the C6R sounded nice

Top speed is ONLY over 190 MPH? Meaning not 200 MPH? That extra ~100 HP isn't going to get it to go 14 more MPH?

They're sandbagging.

A few points. The Z06 is actually less aerodynamic, due to the various scoops, flares and such that were added. Wind resistance is huge at those speeds. I also believe that the gearing for the Z06 (both rearend and transmission) is better suited for acceleration, not top-end.

Welpers, if 200mph is THAT important to someone, pull the rearview mirrors and tape off the body seams - yer there.

Tape them off with what?
Duct tape is only "100 MPH tape."
I crack me up sometimes.

Correcting the horsepower/pounds. Thanks for the notice.

Like Hoodshaker said, tranny is geared more for acceleration than top speed. Thus faster 0-60 times plus over 190mph isnt that bad. Ever ridden in a street car (not race car, factory body paneled car) at 200mph? Seeing that the Z06 doesnt have extensive aero equipment (e.g. large front/rear spoilers, wide body extensions, etc.), it would probably be a very unstable and frightening ride at 200mph

Re: Who else saw the Z06 and C6R unveiling?

I edited it again...
The actual quote was "in excess of 190mph."

Honestly though - what does top speed matter? What you gonna do, tell a Viper driver "Hey buddy - you want take that car to Talladega and make a few quick laps with me? Put your money where your mouth is!"

Just the fact of the matter doesn't fly with me.
That's why I love NHRA - their cars are built for 1 quarter mile pass. After that, it is rebuild the sucker. That's a pure purpose driven vehicle right there.

***Cough***

sandbagging

***Cough***

Hmmm... is 11.7 a MID 11 second time or a HIGH 11 second time????

Actually, top speed is relatively easy to figure out.... all ya need is:

Gear ratio (includes tire diameter @ the rear wheels)
Peak power
rpm @ peak power
Cd
frontal area
Weight

There was a software program around that you could download for free that would figure it out. I'll make it my mission tonight... gotta look up the engine specs again and I'll assume the same frontal area as a C5... I think the Z06's Cd is .31, if memory serves.

Better yet, if one of you folks have it, give it a run.

I'd be willing to bet that someone could just schedule a test drive on a long open road and get the 200 mark..
