Lightbulb Where Will they Build it?

I wonder where they're gonna move the Production of the Camaros to? I read the Hot Rod article about the contract issues and the Canadian Auto Workers. Just wondering, if they make it off of the Austrailian platform, how are they gonna build it here? And If they use a stretched Kappa/Solstice platform, it would follow that they would use the Solstice plant, but can they do that ?

Just hope that this car doesn't come out , and then have GM get slammed with a lawsuit for building something as cool and fast as the fifth-gen Camaro.

BTW, are there any pics of the Fifth-gen concept that's being shown in January? I tried the links and they don't work.

1. Don't you think they need to say they are actually building the car, before we start worrying where it's going to be built?

2. Who's building what off of Australia's platform? The "V" chassis is being phased out, and Camaro isn't part of the chassis program Holden developed.

3. How are they going to build it here if it was on an "Australian" platform? I imagine they would order and purchase machinery, set it up in a very big building, and start making the thing.

4. Kappa isn't capable of, nor is it going to be any potential next gen Camaro. Do a search for more info.

5. The magazine you are refering to is Popular Hot Rodding. I wrote the article.

6. There's no contract issues with the CAW regarding Camaro. The agreement was to make it at the Ste Therese plant. The Ste. Therese plant was leveled over a year ago. GM can make the next Camaro whereever they want. Canada or elsewhere.

7. Since we havenb't seen the car, it's probally a little premature to call it cool. It's bound to **** off some people. But hey, fixed lights on the Corvette pissed off some people too.

8. Lawsuit? Lawsuit over what?

I was under the impression, from things I read here a few months ago, that the CAW contract was still an issue for Camaro, and that we might possibly start hearing more about an upcoming Camaro after the existing CAW contract expired. Well, the contract expires today, so bring on the news!

....or after the contract is settled, we are then given the good news about the next camaro coming to Oshawa.

We are supposedly after all getting a new product after plant #2 is upgraded to a flex plant. Rumours that we are supposed to get a "zeta" based car here have been going on for years.

The replacement for the Bonneville (G8) was also rumoured.

Until it's announced, I'll remain skeptical.

Re: Where Will they Build it?

There is another big GM plant in Ontario. I believe its North America's #1 plant.

Re: Where Will they Build it?

I wouldn't mind seeing it built at GM of Spring Hill. Nice central location will help deliverly costs with fuel prices soaring.

Re: Where Will they Build it?

i think building it in the US could very well be an option at this point to save shipping costs and such.

This is the funniest thing I've read all day. Reminds me of "Airplane."

Randy: There's been a little problem in the cockpit, and I was . . .

Ted Striker: The cockpit--what is it?

Randy: It's the little room in the front of the plane where the pilots sit, but that's not important right now.

There are actually two - Oshawa No. 1, the Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo plant and Oshawa No. 2, the Buick LaCrosse, Buick Allure (Canadian LaCrosse since LaCrosse means, ahem, self pleasuring in some regions of Canada), and Pontiac Grand Prix plant.

But do either of these plants have room for another line, to build a completely different, rear-drive platform? (I genuinely don't know). I realize that there are rumors of the Impala and Monte going rear drive, but that's still several years away so if they were going to build a Camaro at Oshawa, that would either mean they're going to accomodate another line, or we wouldn't see a Camaro before, what 2009?

Wasn't there word of a huge investment in the oshawa plant, back in the spring some time?
