When do they change to new model year?

With the various factory closings, I was wondering the following:

If you ordered a new 2009 SUV or truck a couple of months ago, and the factory was closed from early May until mid-July, when do they make the transition from model year 2009, to model year 2010?

I assume that any tooling changes required to make the new model year vehicles would take place during the closed period, as it wouldn't make sense after reopening to build 2009's for a couple of weeks, then start making 2010's. I found out that Bowling Green, where the Corvette is made, starts making 2010 models in the third week of July. I presume that other plants would follow a similar schedule.

We have a vehicle on order, that is made in Arlington TX. Our dealer is unable to tell us when the vehicle will be built (it does not have a VIN yet), or whether it will be a 2009 or 2010. It was ordered in early April.

Any insiders at GM out there?

Which vehicle is it? Depending upon how many changes there are for the 2010 MY, if there are hardly any, the switch is as simple as updating paperwork. They could even build both MY at the same time. The GM supplier I worked for did that with our HVAC and radiator components.

Its a GMC Yukon Denali.

I've been asking around, and the general consesus is, after startup the plants will typically build whatever vehicles are on the line as the older model year (2009), and then when those are done switch to the next model year (2010). As my vehicle doesn't yet have a VIN, that leads me to believe it will be a 2010.

I haven't heard anything about any changes between the 2009 and 2010 models of the Yukon Denali. I just hope it gets here before winter, because I'm not going to be pleased driving the Trans Am after the fall.

Ordering a vehicle now will be a disater. If GM goes into bankrupcy, the plants will be closed, and everything will be delayed. There are no positive changes for the 2010's I remember, so why not buy a 2009?

We ordered a 2009 Denali back in April. Reason? Because I wanted a specific color, and the dealership did a national search, and none were available in that color. I wasn't willing to compromise, so we ordered it. The extended plant closures happened subsequent to that. I was told in April that it would take several months for the truck to be built, and shipped; now I am wondering whether it will be a 2009 (as ordered), or a 2010 (due to the plant closure, and passage of time).
