What "SS" design cues would be appropriate for a 5th gen Camaro?
What "SS" design cues would be appropriate for a 5th gen Camaro?
Let's leave mechanicals out of this. From a purely design point of view, what visual cues from the SS concept would make a 5th gen Camaro better?
Hmmm...
Well, the overall size is not bad (I want Camaro to keep it's size and presence)
The rear end is a decent starting point... lose the tacky chrome or brushed whatever plate that is glued over it though... (Although I'd perfer to see an evolution of the F4's rear... the integrated spoiler was one of it's nicest design features, IMO)
Other than that, I'd like to see more ideas from GM that are modern and evolutionary from the F4....

I like the short overhangs. I like the relationship between the wheel/tires and wheelwells. (I guess most showcars have this).
I also like the 4 round tail lights. This is really a Chevy cue that I can live with. Of course, for a Camaro, I'd hope they'd look abit more elegant or maybe simple, (maybe more like an R32 Skyline...Nissan nailed the Chevy tail light look with that one).
The grill is reminiscent of an early '70s RS....one of my favorite Camaros. But all it does for me here is prove to me that I don't want a retro Camaro.
Although I think that it's way overdone on the SS....it's skin does have a certain tension that I wouldn't mind seeing in a toned down fashion on a new Camaro.
One area that I absolutely have to disagree with Darth on is size.
This thing is substatially larger than a 4th gen. It would have to be incredibly smaller to reach appropriate Camaro-like dimensions.

THe front end screams early 2nd gen. I like that feature, its a modern interpretation of what many consider to be a classic design. The grille and middle nose are almost too literal of a copy, though, and could be toned back just a tad.
The muscular haunches are good, but are more '68 vette than they are 1st gen camaro. The rear isn't too Camaro-ish to me either. The overall profile is very 4th gen looking, although at 198 inches the car is too long (that's a tad longer than a 4th gen). Need to get the car under 190 inches long IMO.
Driver position in terms of where he sits in the car is good for a pony car, but hood seems a bit too long too. I like the windshield rake, seems a good evolution of the 4th gen w/o being any steeper.
I say remove the rear doors along with their windows and have one big side glass a la the 2nd through 4th gens, moving the C pillars to right behind a set of slightly longer front doors, then throw a hatch back with a big 3rd/4th gen style piece of glass on there to make the tiny-looking trunk more functional. Also needs some sort of lip spoiler or even something styled right into the decklid itself.

I think T-Tops looks out of proportion when that second window is in place... I know the 80's Monte Carlo/Cutlass, etc had T-Tops and the back window, but it looks cleaner and sleeker without.
For what it's worth, this is my favorite "SS" photoshop so far:

well you know my point of view... I like the SS concept..and I think it would make a great 5th gen with a few touches. such as the gills relocated to the back of the door...the front fenders toned down a bit... bar across the grill removed... headlights redesigned to a certain extent... the lights under the headlights should be raised closer to the headlights & foglights should be added. car should be a 2 door of course. different spoilers should be availible acording to package. Rear of the car should be left alone, but the bowtie should be replaced with CAMARO...and hatchback should be availible as well...although I wouldnt mind a trunk too much either
here is my interpritation of how it should look
