what motor will go in the next CTS-V?

I know they get the LS6 right now but will they be getting the LS2, LS7 or keep the LS6? Just something to think about.

I was thinking Ls7 myself, but past discussions on here pointed to an Ls2 . A bit dissapointed myself. I'm not surprised though at the lack of Ls7 because the more expensive STS-V and XLR-V make do with 440hp S/c'd 4.4, and it wouldn't make that much sense to have their entry level V car outpower both.

Not really. Ls2 makes 400hp and 400lb-ft of tq, and ls6 in CTS-V made 400hp and 400lb-ft of tq. Outputs are pretty similar. But that wasn't what i was expecting really. I was expecting a nice bump in hp/tq with the use of something along the lines of Ls7. But it appears that won't be the case.

I'll let other chime in as well.

Hpwise its 5hp.. diff. Rated that is. I would assume the next CTS-V would have to get a lil more powerful LS-2. The last Z0-6 had best times stock of 11's, the new Z51 best ive seen was a 12.3. So i'd say it would be a step down.. unless they bump the LS2 up with the LS6's cam or something.

I heard that they were designing the next-gen CTS to be able to fit the Northstar, and that this one couldn't. That's why it got the LS6, because the Northstar V8 was too big for the fenderwells. If I'm right, I'd expect the next-gen CTS-V to get a version of the blown Northstar.

The current Nortstar S/C is a 4.4L 440HP V8. I'm not too sure about torque numbers, but it's what powers the STS-V and the XLR-V. That would be nice in the current one, but alas, (physical) size does matter...

I wish the blown Northstar had more than 440hp. Mercedez has had the 463hp AMG E55 out for a couple of years now. Not to mention they have a twin turbo V12 monster avaible in the CL, SL, and S class.

I was rather hoping it would get the Northstar.

Let's not mess around here.

No, really... it should get the LS7 or some similar variant well north of 400hp.

Mostly, they gotta fix the wheelhop issue.

They have fixed the wheel hop issue....damn press. And if they havent, there is an aftermarket for people who care.

Two things need to happen with the CTS-V. 1-more power, 2-6spd auto trans.
