Pontiac gouging of the GTO will most likely continue when the more popular Solstice comes out and Saturn's no-haggling (no gouging) policies might make more people choose the mini-vette Sky or the curvy Solstice.

it should outsell it, in my opinion anyways. the sky looks better than the solstice (not to say it isn't a bad looking car).
if the pontiac dealers want profit, they will get it, but at the expense of losing many sales.

I still think that many Buick dealers will start also start selling Saturns in 2006 (coincide with Sky launch) to help GM increase the amount of Saturn dealers which should help increase Saturns total sales volume.
I also still think that it would be wise for GM to merge Buick and Saturn under one nameplate by 2010 which would most likely be under the Saturn-brand(or maybe even OPEL) because regardless how much money GM dumps into Buick its still be an old-farts car.
I have a friend who works for enterprise rental cars and he said you can really get an idea of what cars are hot (or not) depending on what people want to rent. Even though he personally thinks the new Buicks are nice cars , customers will only rent a Buick if its the last car on the lot. Non-elderly people just don't want a Buick and therefore it would be in GM's best interest to switch Buick over to Saturn by 2010.

Re: What is the future of Pontiac if the the Saturn SKY outsells the Solstice??
I never thought about it that way. If a Pontiac dealer won't sell the car withou the "market adjustment" the consumer can say "Screw you I'll buy the same freaking car at a Saturn dealership for MSRP *******".
Re: What is the future of Pontiac if the the Saturn SKY outsells the Solstice??
I would bet sky will outsell solstice due to the no haggle price and the fact that sky clearly is more stylish (no cheese grater grill or huge foglights). This is of course assuming they will both be priced in the same range. Pontiac wouldnt be hurt since these are planned to be low volume models.
If GM was wise, they would offer the Saturn with a v6 only, let solstice go after the miata with the 4cyl. This would help to differentiate the two models and their target market.
I honestly think Pontiac has bigger fish to fry with the "mystery car" and this is why Solstice is only a 4 cylinder.

The only game Saturn does play once in a while is that they might "chrome" the wheels or add-on some extras to bump up the price but they never have "market adjustment" crap.
A person can always special order a spec-car to be guaranteed that you get it how you want with no worry of gouging.

Maybe dealers will take this into consideration.
I just saw another picture of the Solstice....its a neck and neck battle IMO for the hotter roadster.

I think the Sky will far outsell the solstice, they should have keep the lines on the concept. The production one is too bubly and bettle looking. I would never cocider a solstice, but a sky yes.
Re: What is the future of Pontiac if the the Saturn SKY outsells the Solstice??
I think the Solstice will out sell the sky, but not by much. Pontiac has a stronger, more popular brand and more dealers.
I also bet Pontiac will get a Turbo version first.

I was about to say that Pontiac's Solstice will outsell the Sky hands down based on the number of dealers, but you raised an excellent point that throws my thought out the window. If Saturn continues with their "No Haggle" policy with the Sky, combine that with Pontiac dealer's history of gouging on the GTO & the Sky's more aggressive styling, I'd say it's going to be Sky by a big margin. At least the 1st year.
That's ironic, cause it's basically a Pontiac chassis.
BTW: did anyone notice that the Sky has dual rear tailpipes (one per side) while Solstice has a single?

At least we won't be scalping on Solstices...I hope other Pontiac dealers have learned by now from the GTO debacle and won't do the same with the Solstice! With everyone knowing the turbo will be out for '07, with the realization a better one is coming hopefully Pontiac dealers won't be so apt to sit on this one...
Re: What is the future of Pontiac if the the Saturn SKY outsells the Solstice??
Pontiac dealers will be pissed if the Sky outsells (and out hypes) the Solstice and if Chevy's version of the GTO (Camaro,Chevelle, or whatever it gets called) does the same thing.
Re: What is the future of Pontiac if the the Saturn SKY outsells the Solstice??
Who says you have to wait for '07 for force fed induction? Dealer installed supercharger should be available at launch for the Solstice...especially since we still don't know what those vent's are for on the SKY
