Frankly, I came away utterly disappointed.

While the car is an improvement over the Cavalier, outside of the guage cluster I was less than impressed with the interior plastics. I'd very likely take an SS over an SRT4 for the reasons others note, namely being a more complete and refined car. But I'd take a good look before reading the original post and setting off with check book in hand for a scaled back model. I'm thinking a used Vibe GT or Protege5 might be a better runabout.
I agree with you to an extent on the lower end cobalts . If I couldnt have popped for a SS I wouldnt have bought one . With the SS its just all about the total package that rocks and what easily sold me . At 17-18K for nicely equipped Cobalt LS coupe , a Scion TC makes for a much better value for the dollar given the panoramic roof , power everything and not cheap looking 17" rims are standard for $17,495 ...plus 20 more hp .

These have worked great in the Ion RL for wheel hop and shifter feel. I don't know if they would work on the Cobalt SS, though.

With all due respect, I tend to disagree. The Scion is a nice car for sure, and is one of the few imports that I actually kinda like and could see myself driving. However, I think the Cobalt LS Sport at $17,925 (I know, I priced one out ) with the 16" wheels, white face gagues, spoiler, leather wheel and ****, Pioneer stereo, moonroof, fog lights, power everything etc. is a screaming little deal, and a decent looking car.

I would agree that the Scion is the more exciting looking car of the 2, but I still really like the Cobalt, especially inside. I HATE the Scion dash...its hideous IMO. The 20 extra HP is chewed up by the Scion's higher weight, too (something people tend to ignore when talking about HP). The 0-60 on a Cobalt stick is 8.1 seconds...Scion is 7.8. I wouldn't call that a rousing victory...would anyone here?

When Car and Driver claims there's "sweat stains on the detailing" of the interior, I cannot imagine ANYONE here faulting the interior of at least an LS model Cobalt...
