Is that for the series 1 or series 2 monaro?? as the new VY has lost some weight and I would be interested in knowing if the monaro does too.

well the pics on the holden site are of the series 1 monaro and there doesn't appear to be any info in the series 2 up yet so i guess that weight figure is of the series 1. I guess we will find out around the end of jan or early feb.

Yeah, what a fat A$$ being around the weight of an F-body convertible and all .

Sorry, I just find it funny when someone calls a nice sized 4 adult seater coupe "fat" when it weighs about the same as an F-body barely 4 seater sports convertible.

It's not fair to compare the GTO to a convertible, since convertibles are always heavier then their fixed-roof brethren.

3600 is heavy. Maybe it doesn't look so bad comparing it to f-bodies in general, but f-bodies are too heavy too. For reference, Mustangs are lighter and a tad roomier than f-bodies. Ideally a 2+2 coupe, even with aluminum V8 power, should come in at no more than 3400 lbs.

What everyone is forgeting is that Independent Rear Suspension is heavier than a rear solid axle.

2003 Cobra curb weight: 3665
2003 Monaro curb weight: 3574/3616 (SC V6/V8)

For comparison, the SMALLER BMW M3 (with a 6 cylinder engine) is 3415 in base form.

M5s weigh 2 tons!

So, I wouldn't exactly call it fat a$$ed, considering the company it's running with.

While I understand a coupe is lighter then a convertible, I find it funny when someone calls a ROOMY coupe a fat a$$ when F-bodies in coupe are almost as heavy and heavier in convertible. Heck, the 03 Cobra is heavier then the GTO and the MACH 1 is just slightly behind (3400+). The GTO isn't a small car in which it should be really light. Heck, if GM can lighten it, that would be great, but a mid 3000 lb roomy coupe is pretty good. If you believe Mustangs are roomier, then check out a comparison between front and rear seat legroom of both. My friend has a Mustang and it is very cramped, even compared to my Trans Am.

Remember too, the GTO has a lot of standard equipment on it and like guionM said, IRS.
