Volt update: with teaser pic

If that is the production model I think they made a good transition b/t concept and production.

Picture looks fake. Is GM trying to show they're farther along than what they really are?

Most likely it is the 1/3 scale model they are testing that the art department fuzzed up to make the picture cooler AND cover parts they don't want us to see.

To summarize that unnecessarily long article:

They're working on the Volt's aerodynamics, because aerodynamics are an important factor in vehicle efficiency.

Plus, they included a rendering of an unidentified Chevy, which may or may not look anything like the Volt, in a wind tunnel.

Yep, just overflowing with new information, aren't we?

+1 on the first point, no comment on the second.

Agreed. Although almost every review I've read on the Malibu has said how good looking it is, so I guess we're in the minority.

I've got a video up from Guy Gordon inside the E-Flex studios that shows the Volt pictured in "real life."

I think it looks good. More of a Malibu than Camaro look now. I can't wait for this car to come out.

Concept Volt or production Volt?

And why hasn't it been posted yet?

The concept Volt. Bob Boniface pulls back the cover just a smidgen.

The video is from Guy Gordon who is a local reporter. It's on TheGMSource front page and available on YouTube.

I like how there was a complete Monster.com commercial in there but not the full story.

Anyways, it looks like just what I posted and I do believe the almost no front overhang is gone.

Was the point of that article to remind us that GM still has a wind tunnel?

“I'm proud to say that after extensive aero development of the Volt, and more to come, we have achieved a vehicle that had a coefficient of drag that is more 30% lower in drag than the original concept,” said Welburn. “It’s not easy, but it is a necessity.”
Didn't Bob Lutz recently make a quip something to the effect that the Volt concept was horribly unaerodynamic and joked that it would better if turned around backwards in the wind tunnel? If so, would it be all that praiseworthy to make a 30% improvement?

Not really, it's not hard to improve upon the aero qualities of a brick. All this shallow priase and hype for this car is getting a little lame.
