Volt still on schedule

Not breaking news...but another confirmation this is on schedule. I have a feeling GM's future is riding on this one.

Anyone know what the base price target is for the Volt?

I doubt we'll have any reliable information on that for a while. I think I read another story about GM looking for help from the goverment on this one to keep costs down (well, keep costs down for GM, at the tax payers expense). Whether or not they get this help could impact the price of the car.

GM just recalled 9000 or so 2008 model hybrids, and stopped production of some 2009 models due to a discovery of a defect in some batteries. I'd hate to see the Volt go live and then the fact that they rushed it to market with unproven battery designs ends up causing massive recalls that make the laptop battery recalls we went through a year or two ago look like child's play.

I think GM knows that they have a lot riding on the VOLT and it is their best interest to get it right. I might get a VOLT as a DD instead of the crappy Civic and keep the Z06 parked . We will see...

My lease is up on my 335i in October of 09 so I can't wait around to see about the Volt... not to mention if it comes out at the price people are thinking it will be (40 grand) then I have no interest unless gas is at 8 dollars a gallon or else that car is SERIOUSLY nice (fun to drive and well built) rather than just a 40k dollar economy car.

I'll probably either get a Civic or Cobalt xfe.

I have no interest in a Volt or any other electric car unless I can drive it 300 or more miles, plug it in for 5 minutes @ a station and then go for another 300 or more miles and know my batteries arent going to fail after a year and have to spend 10 grand for new ones. I want it to be like a gas powered car and have alot of power to get out if its own way and be safe
