Good lord thats awesome! 100 MPG might make that 40k pricetag worth it. Does anybody know if the Maintence or replacing the batteries would be a hassle or not much of an issue?

40 miles on battery power alone (one way) +
40 miles on battery power alone (the other way) +
20 miles/gallon from the gasoline/E85-powered engine generator?

Is that how they plan to gauge it? Thats pretty lame if so, you won't always be able to charge it if you stop somewhere.

The CAFE goal for 2020 is 35mpg. So for every 100mpg Volt Chevy sells, they can sell five 23mpg V8 Camaros and still have a bit of a safety net.

23*5=115+100=215/6=35.8333

The A in CAFE stands for Average.

I really hope that 23mpg number changes before production...
The Z06 gets 24mpg on the highway with the larger LS7.

Truer words have never been spoken.

No I didn't say that... but if the Volt is capable of 100mpg it must get there by various means. I only offered but one scenario as to how persons commuting to the city might use this vehicle.

GM isn't telling porkies if the Volt is capable of consistent 40miles between charges. By that, I mean there are no unbelievable claims made of the Volt. The car is designed for a specific audience and probably wouldn't suit most persons.

I shun any fuel efficiency rating that mixes distance traveled with electricity with that of the distance traveled with fuel.

Keep in mind that CAFE and EPA use different tests and produce different numbers. Generally, CAFE is more generous, but we'll have to see how they measure cars like the Volt.

As far as CAFE goes, does the Volt get bonus points for being capable of burning e85 like the flexfuel trucks?

I'm 99% sure that's not how it works.

My guess is 40 miles on battery, and 60 miles on 1 gallon worth of charge, for a total of 100 miles and one gallon.
