Thumbs up Vehicles from General Motors Corp showed improved reliability in a new survey by Cons

A SAMPLE OF THE survey results, released late Thursday, elevated several GM vehicles to Consumer Reports’ list of recommended vehicles — the Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe and the GM Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.

GM’s higher ratings boosted the total number of the company’s vehicles recommended by Consumer Reports from four to 13, including the automaker’s Saab unit.

while models from some Japanese automakers dropped.

Wonder how long it's going to take for perceptions to equal reality.

So...were any GM CARS recommended? The trucks don't have nearly as bad of a rep as their cars.

Show me a Cavalier on the list and I'll be impressed.

So what cars made it? I see a list of 7 trucks, and a mention of a Saab. So there's one Saab car, 7 trucks...that leaves 5 spots to fill, what cars are filling up the rest of the recommended list?

Something tells me it's just more trucks.

I don't care what they say. GM as a whole has a long way to go IMO.

I would rate the quality on 4 cars for you:

1) My former 1999 Z28. Quality was acceptible, but went down hill after 30,000 miles. Creaks & rattles, grinding problem with the 6=speed going into 1st gear with the clutch to the floor, the A.I.R. pump was all noisy... replaced it once, same thing...

2) My current 2002 Monte Carlo SS, with 4,600 miles.... nearly flawless so far. I noticed the 'soft-touch' coating on the console is not superdurable though.

3) My fiance's 2001 Monte Carlo SS, with 45,000 ( ) miles on it.... nearly flawless as well, and this car gets DRIVEN! The 'soft-touch' coating problem on the console is very noticable here... it 'scratches off', and makes it look bad... hardly a functional problem, but still unsightly Looks like her bracelets or watches etc eventually loosen it up, then it flakes and leaves the exposed black plastic underneath. The only other problem I can think of is that on they paint the mufflers black.... mine on the 02 are perfect still, but hers, the black coating is wearing off here too, making it look like a bad undercoating job sprayed on the mufflers... I have noticed this happens to alot of Monte SS's mufflers... If this is the mufflers and talipipies from the rear:

( O*)-------(*O )

, then the astericks represent where the paint wears off... very odd. It might be caused by winter driving... Anyway, we'll see how mine does in the upcoming winter. It's funnt, becuase I'd imagine the whole point of painting the mufflers black is to 'hide' them under the car, but you notice them even more when you see the black paint coming off and looking nasty. Overall, though, both Monte Carlo SS's have been mechanically perfect and neither have been in for any warranty repair.

4) My fiance's 2000 Blazer LT 4x4 29,000 miles .... a big creaking pile. More noise than a hungry baby, and the brakes SUCK! Mushy as all hell... it was a lease, and will be turned in soon. (She had to buy her Monte because she got transferred to a new facility for work, and it's an hour drive 1-way ) powertrain has been acceptible. Interesting rust problem on the frame... you can see the frame rails the body sits on plain as day from the profile, and the are all rusty looking... not cool.
