V6-GT500 Mustang Shootout
Re: V6-GT500 Mustang Shootout
Wait, so the GT500 pulled a higher skidpad number than the BOSS LS?
Not that skidpad numbers are all that, but still...
Also bested the Laguna Seca on the road course. Somehow I think the other magazines will come up with different results. Unless this was a track that favors big horsepower.
One of the car rags (Road & Track, I think) just got a 4.1 0-60 and a 12.3 1/4 mile out of a Laguna Seca. Most Boss times have been right on top of the GT500 times I've seen, impressively.

The V6 is a premium with the performance package. It's basically loaded and has the performance goodies. I think it's a good deal.
2011 Mustang Performance Package upgrades include:
-A 3.31 rear axle ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration
-Mustang GT coupe front and rear stabilizer bars
-Mustang GT front struts and rear shocks/springs
-Shelby GT500 rear lower control arm
-Unique 19-inch wheels
-Pirelli performance tires for improved grip
-Mustang GT front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads
-A strut tower brace for increased body rigidity
-Unique electronic stability control calibration with Sport mode for performance driving
-Unique badging

Not knock'n the GT500 since I own one and the car is stoopid fun for a DD (let the clutch out like your at red light and you can granny shift it to mid 12's) but facts are facts.

The white elephant in the this thread though, is GM benching the Boss numbers and GT500 numbers and laying the smackdown with the Zl-1. The F5 is hot, if GM wants to deliver the coupe de grace and render the Mustang obsolete then it needs to put both the Boss and GT500 on the trailer for as many laps as either cap run without breaking a sweat.

Re: V6-GT500 Mustang Shootout
Considering that almost the entire development time of the ZL1, was done with GT500 as the benchmark, and not knowing that the Boss was even going to exist, I would say that is still the case.
You cannot make the one car do both. The supercharged engine will not be good for sustained road racing, due to heat soak. The weight will not be good for road racing. It will be good for drag racing, and doing huge smokey burnouts. It has all the bells and whistles, and all the weight that goes with that.
Now, if GM could develop a track key that would instantly render the engine NA, and remove 500lbs from it, then they would have a Boss 302 contender. However, then it would be called a ZL1 Z/28.
Now, I am not in any way saying the ZL1 will not be a great car. Just that it is not a Boss 302 competitor, as the Boss 302 didn't even exist to anyone, until the majority of work was done on the ZL1.
My husband wants a Boss 302 now, also. I really want one. I will drive him to work in it.
