V-12 Caddy/Future GM V6's

GM. Do you like your motors big? Well, if you do, then GM has something coming for you. They will produce a 7.5-liter V-12 engine for "future Cadillacs," which will be formally unveiled in a new ultra-luxury sedan concept at the North American International Auto Show in January. GM said the new motor will feature an aluminum block and cylinder heads, double-overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and in excess of 500 hp. It is a production development of the 7.5-liter V-12 first shown in the Cadillac Cien concept at last January's Show. GM last offered a V-12 in a Cadillac back in the '30s. As good as that news is, GM's other engine news is probably more significant in the overall scheme of things. They will build a new family of all-aluminum, overhead-cam, four valves per cylinder, high output V6 engines with displacements ranging from 2.8 to 3.8 liters. The first one available will displace 3.6 liters and have 255 hp with 250 pounds-feet of torque. They will also revamp their tried-and-true pushrod V-6 engine family using cylinder deactivation technology. GM also announced that they will build a new six-speed, rear-wheel-drive automatic transmission that will go into production in 2005 for a new range of rear-wheel-drive vehicles planned. Sounds like enthusiasts of high-performance, rear-wheel-drive cars will have some very interesting choices from GM down the road.

It might be in the upcoming STS as well.
"The architecture strategy vastly increases product flexibility. Consider GM’s Sigma which, at least for now, is being used solely by Cadillac. All Sigma vehicles will be both rear- and all-wheel drive, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. While many key components are shared, the critical underbody is actually a set of mix-and-match pieces attached to a central floorpan. This allows one model to have a shorter nose and a longer cargo compartment, another one to provide the space up front for a big V-12. By switching rocker panels, vehicles can be made wider or narrower"
It's in today's carconnection article on platform sharing.
