Well...no more F-body.

But Chevy does have some performance models in the pipeline: SSR, Impala SS, Silverado SS.

Anyone excited about these two trucks and one car?

Anyone planning on buying one?

 

Uuuuuuuhhhh.....NO.....yeah, that's my answer and I'm stickin' to it.

Other than a passing interest in the GTO (though it's possibly going to be overpriced) there's nothing available for us blue-collared performance buyers........

 

To my eye the SSR has lost much of it's "coolness" in the transition from concept to reality......the Silverado SS just isn't my cup 'o tea...but maybe the Impala SS may give me some shred of excitement....we'll see.

Impala SS... yeah right. I dont care how quick it will be, its just more of the same watering down of the SS badge with boring fwd cars.

 

The SSR is about as much of a performance model as the new Thunderbird, and I don't think GM is even concerned with making it "performance" oriented.

That Impala SS better have the 4.8 V8 and not the S/C 3.8, b/c I don't see sacrificing the name to have two GTPs in the lineup.

The F-Body is gone for now. but what I dream of is in about 5-8 years, maybe, just maybe, Chevy will let a Z28 off the producion line, [or maybe a SS] that is what it is supposed to be. Does everyone remeber what all the letters are supposed to mean? SS=Super Sport, RS=Rally Sport,

What I'd really love is that in the returning year, they put maybe a 383 into a SS, or Z28. That would sure as hell spike my interest.

Im very disappointed with the lack of performance in Chevys lineup, but GM is pushing forward with the CTSv, GTO, XLR, and C6. Unfortunally 1 will be at least 30k and 2 weigh it at 40k+ and then the XLR... I dont want to think about how much its gonna cost.

But hopefully some of their tech will combine and trickle down to a rwd 25-30k car soon enough. I guess you never know what GM has up their sleve (although if they do have an ace in the hole it'd be nice if they'd give some sort of nod).

 

I'll tell you my take on the SSR.

As a matter of saving face...GM is pretty much committed to this one. When it gets released it will get it's share of magazine covers...which would be good for GM...and I'm sure they'll sell everyone (probably with a dealer mark-up to boot), of the limited number manufactured.

But, if GM were to pull the plug on it, I wouldn't shed a tear.

 

I say give it a few years, and maybe we'll have more Chevy performance. But in the next two years, affordable performance in GM is nonexistent.

 

Chevy performance is non-existant.

Impala SS? Laughable. Same as the Monte SS. SSR? Not really. Silverado SS? Once again, not really.

GM only has the Vette and the GTO coming out soon. Way to go GM!

 

Agree. However, I'm in the minority who is willing to wait & see about the Impala SS. I have 0% intentions of buying one, but it might turn out popular with the "I can't drive anything that isn't FWD because it's too dangerous" crowd.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. Maybe it's not exactly what I'd like to see... but at least it's some sign of life.

Well as far as a targeted market is concerned the Silverado SS is gonna pick up where the Lightning left off. Not everyone wants a 400HP 2 seat truck; sales will show you ext. cabs are the best thing since sliced bread and chevy is giving the buyer a truck that looks good, has nice appealing 20'' wheels, has space for up to 5 people, and can handle a northeast winter. This is what sells and this is why trucks are so popular. In my opinion chevy has abandoned raw power for good, i think they're focus is torward a more refined product much like BMW. Impalla SS does not have to mean 500HP of tire smoking power, it can mean refinment like a 5series BMW ,a combination of all things that make a great car. The SSR is a direct attack at Chrysler's PT cruiser segment which by the way lets not forget the PT only has a 4banger, no performance competition for the SSR there. Before totally bashing GM try to figure out what they are doing, a better product image is more important then bieng known for making incredibly quick cars that rattle after 10,000miles. After the GM rep for quality goes up then they can worry about raw performance auto's. Just a 1:30am thought after reading about 10 negative comments about GM. All i can say is give it some time its not easy to restructure such a huge cookie cutter industry.
