I forgot to post anything about it, but there was one of the redesigned Cadillac Escalades following me to school yesterday or the day before that. (If you live in Dallas, I was going down University towards SMU). Are these released or something? It had less angular, smaller looking headlights and looked a lot like the Tahoe pictures that were recently released. I don't have a camera phone, but I did look at it in my rearview mirror while at the stop light and noted that it definitely had the Cadillac logo, was white in color, and the inside rear view mirror had marti gras beads or something hanging on it. I couldn't see the driver because the windshield was tinted. I didn't notice any of the usual black duct tape or anything on it that is normally associated with test cars (only saw the front end though), so what's the deal, are these already out for some reason, or did I have a prototype driving behind me?

 

You should sue for the Caddy bcuz of stocking!

 

dunno..........if it was, indeed a 900 series Caddy, it should have been in full camo....so that 'prying eyes' could not see it!

 

Well, it's unfortunate that I can't back up my statements with a picture, but I keep up with the car news on autoblog and jalopnik, and had a VERY clear look at the SUV while it was behind me, so I can 100% positively say that it was a Cadillac and something I hadn't seen before. And that it was so different and rounded looking compared to the current Escalade, that it had to be a new one. At first I thought it was some Cadillac SUV I've never seen before, but then it hit me: new Escalade. It could have been some sort of customized SRX, but it seemed bigger and the headlights definitely weren't vertically stacked and the front end was vertical and blunt, not wedge shaped.

I'll make a photochop and post a link here in a few minutes... It's too bad I didn't make this the day I saw it, because my memory is fuzzy now.

 

Not a custom Escalade? It's possible. Heck, I saw a GMC Sonoma with the flared rear fenders (not sure what they're called) made into a Cadillac look-a-like, badging and all. It was a sight for sure.

 

No, I don't think it could have been a customized Escalade, the headlights and hood were too massively rounded, the current one seems very sharp and boxy compared to what I saw. It would have been too big of a custom job I would think. If I am mistaken, it could have been a modified SRX, but I don't know how they could have modified the headlights to be horizontal |OO\ looking. I haven't seen that many SRXes, so I could have made the mistake, but they kind of look like station wagons on stilts compared to a regular SUV. To be honest, I first thought the SUV behind me was some kind of Cadillac version of the Chevy Uplander because it seemed to be maybe 2 to 3 inches shorter in height than a current Escalade (possibly smaller tires?), or at least the hood was, and it had those horizontally arranged headlights. However, you might notice that the Uplander and upcoming Tahoe look VERY similar, so that is what me come to the conclusion that it was an upcoming Escalade.

As I said, I'm not clear about every detail, but I do know 4 things:
1- horizontal headlights like |OO\ that seemed rounded on the outside upper portion
2- a Cadillac logo
3- the horizontal grill 'mini-blinds' were much thicker than the current Escalade's
4- this car was MUCH more attractive than the current Escalade

Here is the photochop I made of what I saw. I keep thinking the front bumper was different, but I can't clearly think of how it was different. I keep thinking the fog light holes were larger or something.

That looks similar, but I think I am going to have to stick with my gut on this one and say that it was a new one. Although that one there looks more similar to what I saw than the current Escalade, that design looks a bit old and dated. The one I saw seemed to have the same or similar headlights to that of the 2007 Tahoe and definitely had a white grill with thick horizontal pieces. I don't remember any chrome. I won't rule out the possibility that it may have been one of those, but those headlights looked brand new on the one in my rear view mirror...

 

i dont think so. what you probally saw was a customized older escalade. the new ones arent close to being out and if they were being tested it would probally be in michigan and they would be in heavy camo. the only time they would be out driving around without camo would be right before they come out and still only in michigan. at least thats what ive seen.

 

The next Escalade uses vertical headlamps similar to the designs we have seen on all the redesigned Caddies. It would have looked like:

That's what I was thinking. They don't build the Tahoes and stuff in Detroit do they? I thought most of the SUVs were built in Arlington.

 

They don't build production models in Detroit, BUT they do build preproduction models. Which is EXACTLY what this is.

 

Heh...well speaking for the "prying eyes"....he is correct. Any GMT-900 testing in public right now, minus the Tahoe of course, would be covered up in yards and yards of black vinly.
