Re: Uh-oh; VW undercuts Pontiac

Pontiac G6 Convertible:
$27,865 + $625 destination = $28,490
Length: 189.1"
Width: 70.6"
Height: 56.7"
Base Engine: 3.5L V6 201hp/221tq

Volkswagen Eos:
$27,990 + $630 destination = $28,620
Length: 173.6"
Width: 70.5"
Height: 56.7"
Base Engine: 2.0L I-4 200hp/207tq

I'm sorry, which one is cheaper?

Pontiac G6 is a bigger car in a higher class, and it costs less.

(Not to mention it's wired right unlike the german. )

GM > VW

Those VDub guys are pretty funny.

edit:

I am reading through this thread for fun. When will the convertible get the 6 speed auto so there will be one less lame thing for the VW guys to lord over the G6?

Yeah, I was reading the thread there.

I've seen lists a couple times with the ranking of quality among the car brands in the last couple years.

The German(edit- I meant European) cars are always bottom of the list in quality, yet they are all stating that the VW will be a much more quality vehicle than the Pontiac... I guess they don't consider the quality lists accurate.

One may have been from Consumer Reports, but I'm not sure. HERE is an old one from 2002 that lists VW in the bottom. Granted, things have most likely improved since then. But I have seen newer lists that still have VW in the bottom, I'm just not sure where they are...

HERE is another page listing several GM vehicles with high quality rankings, yet only one lonely VW...

Edit-
HERE is another that specifically state VW had improved but was still in the bottom. LOL Maybe I should post all these over on the VW thread. Nah, I'm not a troublestarter.

it's also a VW, something I wouldn't drive even if you paid for it.

Re: Uh-oh; VW undercuts Pontiac

for some people perception is reality.
I bet most of them either have old VW's that have most of their wierd new car issues worked out, or they just got their VW's recently. Wait awihle and it will work itself out one way or another.

My friend is an active memeber in Audiworld, and there's a good # of folks, that admit there are problems with Audi's.. Some decide the quirks are worth living with... some have gave up, and bought Acura's...!

Yes, you would. If reliability wasn't a concern I can assure you you'd find that car plenty of fun to drive.

While the cars are similar, I honestly don't see too many people cross-shopping the two. The VWs will get purchased by yuppie chicks, while the Pontiacs will go to Avis dealers

No I wouldn't. I've got friends with everything from A4's to S4's to A8's, and they do absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. Completely dull, seats aren't comfortable, not all the quick, and they're boring to look at. Not to mention they all spend days at a time in the shop, cost an assload to fix, and the only one who can really work on them properly is the dealer.

I'd definitely say S4s are quick. And the handling and road feel of them is second only to BMW.

Re: Uh-oh; VW undercuts Pontiac

GM has an interesting caveat headed for them in the next few years: Foreign cars are now taking their same levels of quality and competing on the same price line as American car manufacturers. Consumers are used to getting good quality at a great price at GM.

Now they can get better quality cars at the SAME price. VW has fixed their electrical mishaps (Corrado, Jetta III), and Audi has literally perfected cars next to BMW. I will be the first to admit that German cars handle, feel, and look superior to American cars--and I'm not talking about styling. I'm talking about gaps, seams, trim fit, welds, overall engineering, use of plastics, and paint techniques. These days, Fords have more orange peel than a rotting orange. Ever see that on a Jetta, or an A6? A4? Passat?

With most of them offering 5 year warranties and free maintenance anyway, who gives a crap if they actually DO break down?

I will be very interested to see the direction that GM takes (despite financial trouble) in the next 5 years or so. They've got to raise the bar...besides honda, are they the only ones left offering a 36k/36 month warranty?

I now know not to ever listen a word you say, because you are certifiably insane.

Indeed, I'm not really sure what alternate reality he is quoting but it must be nice there.

VW is not reliable, period.

"Consumers are used to getting good quality at a great price at GM."

VW being God's chosen car aside, this is what perked my ears up.^^^

I mean, because we all know, GM has always built: a quality auto tranny, quality intake manifold gaskets, quality plastic interiors, quality taillight circuit boards in the C/K trucks (thank God for ONE aftermarket tail set that does not use the circuit boards!), and we could go on....

It's the mean old grumpy consumer that never gave GM a chance which put GM into the brink of bankruptcy...
