Angry Ugghh....More GM Dealer Dumbness

Ok, I've been looking into getting a Pontiac Torrent GXP to replace our Olds Intrigue. Since we have a baby now the Torrnet GXP will offer some extra space while having some sport too. Anyways I was on Pontiac.com and used the "request a quote" feature, and selected a few dealer in my area here is the response I got back from one dealer.......

Subject: Pontiac Torrent GXP/Bob Hook of Shelbyville/C. Long

Dear Mr. Moore, 15 April, 2008

Thanks for your request for a price quote on the new Torrent GXP. This SUV is not available yet. The production is to start late spring and the vehicle is to be available this summer. I'll keep you posted as to delivery dates! Call, ore-mail anytime to check on status. Regards,Charles Long
The Torrent GXP has been available since last year late summer/early fall.

They are stalling because they don't have one on the lot. I just searched their inventory. No Torrent GXP's.

But, I would respond to him that they are on the lot at

SAM SWOPE PONTIAC BUICK GMC
7 SWOPE AUTOCENTER DR
LOUISVILLE, KY 40299

And it is about 20 miles away...

I didn't get to finish my post, I was at work......Anyways like I posted earlier, I sent requests out to several dealers in the area, I wasn't looking to work with that paticular dealer. Lots of Pontiac dealers have them in stock. I think its totally unacceptable for a salesmen/internet manager not know the products and when they are available. I sent them a little FYI email back on the status of the Torrent GXP.

Why does it always seem to be Pontiac dealers that come up with issues??

* $5,000 markups
* No test drives on GTOs and G8s
* Lack of product knowledge (there was an example earlier of a salesman that didn't even know the G8 was out already)

You don't hear about this type of crap at a Chevy, Ford, Saturn, or even a Chrysler or Dodge dealer.

Yet Pontiac keeps coming up.

It's because Pontiac has gawd awful, very old dealerships that have been screwed by the Pontiac brand year after year. My guess is that they also don't retain the brightest employees because sales have been very low. Is there a new Pontiac SUV that's coming out that maybe was confused with the older Torrent?

Interesting to note...When my buddy bought his Audi S4, the dealer had exactly ONE S4 on the lot. It was the FIRST 2006 S4 (new body style) to be shipped to a dealership east of Seattle. There was no dealer markup, and MSRP came close to $60,000.

He was 28 at the time, pulled up in a Jeep Wrangler, and dressed in a hoodie and jeans. They let him take it for a spin without hesitating. He also ended up buying the car--There was still no markup, but let's just say there weren't any discounts, either.

Why a Pontiac dealer won't let a $32k G8 on a test drive, I have no idea...

That sounds like an automated email. I wouldn't have read into the situation so much.

You're better of using the tools GM has to locate the vehicle you want online and contact those dealers by phone to feel them out. I'd imagine phone inquiries about a specific vehicle will be taken more seriously than emails. This is the routine I went through recently while shopping for an '09 Vibe GT for my Mom (she really likes it btw). Just my $.02.
