Two more Cobalt SS's for '06
Two more Cobalt SS's for '06
A normally aspirated SS Cobalt coupe and SS sedan join the line up for '06.
They'll come with a 172 hp 2.4L Ecotec, 5 speed manual, 3.91 axle ratio, and 17" wheels.

Re: Two more Cobalt SS's for '06
Even though the SS name has historically been on 6-cylinder Impalas and Novas, most people when they think of SS, they think of a 1970 Chevelle SS with the 454 LS6, or some other hot 1960's road burner. We cannot be dilluting the SS name by putting it on volume cars with just average perfomence. I say the SS needs to be on low volume, high perfomece cars like the supercharged Cobalt SS, Camaro SS, V8 Montes and Impalas. Get it off of non-supercharged V6 Montes, non-supercharged Cobalts, and off of the Silverado SS(which is totally and utterly owned by the quad cab Ram SRT-10 BTW).

Personally, I think it's great. SS is about affordable performance...and this is just that.

They should have called the N/A version Z24 or RS. SS should be reserved for the top of the line S/c'd version.
Re: Two more Cobalt SS's for '06
Question that will result into another SS vs Z28 battle.
What if they were to call the SS N/A model with the 2.4 Ecotec the Z24?
I think that LTZ should be badged on the 2.4 models. There were different SS's back in the day, such as the Camaro SS 350 and 396, as well as Chevelle 396 and 454.

Re: Two more Cobalt SS's for '06
RS would be perfect for a mid-level performance model name for the Cobalt.
I don't think the SS should be attached to these mid-level performance models. Someone in marketing is trying to plaster SS on everything to turn SS into $$, all the while really degrading the meaning and heritage of SS.

smart
here's why i think
don't we have like a million monte ss's running around that DON"T have the supercharged v6?
i mean, i've only seen 2-3 supercharged while i see atleast that many non-supercharged montes on my way to work (a 10 min drive no less)
if people are gonna pay for the badge (which you do when you get the ss treatment) then it's all in the name of profit
the consumer gets their ss car and they're happy because it's not the standard base car, meanwhile, gm is making that much more on each vehicle
just my take on it

Chevy needs to get serious about the under $20K, entry level, performance segment.....these cars will do that brilliantly.

Sorry, I meant "another SC SS car" like the Monte Carlo SC SS...I realize those two are not SC. IMO, there should be only ONE SS model per lineup....it gets way too confusing. Come up with another designation to differentiate the SS from the others.

And why are these cars a joke? You do realize that these cars have a different powertrain, suspension and look than the base cars.
