Turbo Diesel 1500.

Why are there no turbo diesel 1500 trucks made by any of the big truck companies? With the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks (2500 and 3500) pulling down 20mpg for the turbo diesels versus 10mpg for the gasoline motors with 4.10 gears we could see 30+ mpg in a 1500 with 4WD and 3.73 or 3.42 gears.

The 5.3 Silverados are getting 18-20 mpg currently. Seems like someone is missing a big part of the market with a strong and fuel efficient motor in a 1/2 ton truck. It would be nice to be able to haul the family around in 4wd, crew cab and still get 30+ mpg. I can drive it to work 60 miles every day and still haul stuff on the weekends.

Wait a year. GM and Ford both have them coming.

I have several answers, but none of them are particularly nice.

Each of the manufacturers are working on something; IMO, they all should have put a light-duty diesel on the market by now.

ive always wanted a diesel in a half ton. I mean just imagine a regular cab short bed 1/2 ton putting down an easy 1000ft/lb of ground pounding torque

What the 1500 needs is 6-speed autos for gasoline and diesel, and I think they are on the way since the higher end trucks have them.

I hope they do make them. I will be the first to buy. I just bought a used 01 Silverado to hold me over until/if they do make them.

Suburban owners have been asking for one since they stopped making them.
