Trailblazer SS vs Grand Cherokee SRT-8

C&D did a comparison test between the two in the March 2006 issue. The SRT8 cleaned the SS's clock in every performance test, but in the end the SS walked away the winner in this C&D test, because the SS was still a Sport Ute that still has some ute, and nice performace to go with it. Where as the SRT8 was all performance and no ute. If I had the mag in front of me I would quote the "Got To Have-It Factor" since its been quite a few times that is has came down to the points awarded in this section that decides the winner, anybody remember the GTO vs Mustang And this one was close under there points system only one or two points difference.
0 to 60 was 4.5 seconds vs 5.5 seconds, 1/4 mile are 13.2 sec. vs 14.1 sec. and the margin widens as it goes up.

So why doesn't the LS2 perform closer to what the 6.1 Hemi does. The LS2 on paper is only 25hp shy (395hp vs 420hp) and the SRT8 is heavier, could it all be in the extra gear the SRT8 has to play with vs the old 4-speed auto in the SS?

Gearing is the issue. This is also why the SS gets better gas mileage than the SRT8.

Didn't folks say the same thing about the Silverado SS versus Lightning? How did the sales compare in that case?

I belive the SVT Lightning sold like 1/20th of SS volume.

I'd be willing to bet that even if the SS didn't exist, most buyers would still walk away with some sort of GM truck.

Re: Trailblazer SS vs Grand Cherokee SRT-8

When has the SRT line ever been anything else other then all out performance? I'm sure the Jeep could still haul other things, other then ***.

I think the performance difference is the 5spd auto in the Jeep. The interesting thing is I think the TB SS is very similar in performance to that of the Porshe SUV turbo, which the SRT cleaned up there too in performance.

I just wish I had the 40k to throw down on the SRT.

I'm obviously biased now ... and a diehard GM fan anyways ... not to take anything away from the Jeep ... but I can't see needing more power for a street driver .... it's just bragging rights at this point. We've had more smiles to the mile with the TB SS than any other vehicle we've owned ... perhaps excluding the SS 'vert.

GM's LS2 engine makes just a little over what it's advertized, generally about 5 horses or so. SRT-8's engine is grossly underrated.

Chrysler's SRT, as almost policy, has a (shall we say?) conservative way of rating their horsepower and torque.

Sure about that?? Ford sold around 7,500 L's per year. I don't think GM is selling 20x that (150,000 units/year). The numbers have to be much closer than that. I don't even see that many Silverado SS's on the road. In reality, i would think that the Silverado SS's would be selling around 10k-15k units per year. Anyone have real numbers??

As for the TB SS vs GC SRT8, no surprise really. SRT is more hardcore (when it comes to performance) than SS so that is to be expected. Outside of performance, the TB SS is the better truck/SUV/DD when you take into account fuel economy, tow rating, etc...
