Toyota's next step in becoming an "American" company.....
Re: Toyota's next step in becoming an "American" company.....
Toyota is like this giant snowball, rolling down the hill with constant velocity, but slowly getting bigger on its way down.
A study says, GM supports roughly 3x more US workers overall per vehicle than Toyota.. Toyota supports 3x more than Hyundai.. There's a chart and source that says all this.. somewhere on detnews
its something all the pro imports articles tend to ignore, and instead wirte out articles with titles such as "Toyota Sienna contains more US parts than Ford Mustang"... which then the general population instantly picks up as "well, if I buy an import car, I support more US workers right?"

Not to be "Anti-GM", but Toyota doesn't have the UAW to contend with so it's workers actually do 3x the job responsibilities as compared to GM. When it takes 3 people to do what typically should take one person; you are going to have to hire 3x as many workers. That's why GM is in a pickle right now.
My brother works for Cummin's (UAW). He walked in a Honda plant recently and was amazed that everyone is actually WORKING! (Neat concept eh?)
He is a mfg engineer at Cummin's and he said you walk in his plant there's people reading the paper, standing around talking, sitting on their asses, etc...
So the number of workers hired to me, means diddly squat; and that 3x is probably one of the reasons they're in the financial problems they are in right now.

Now, whether those workers are effectively used or not is a seperate issue, (and I believe is one of the many problems that exist) If the way things are going, I would imagine more downsizing and more productivity will happen.

To survive, GM will eventually have to De-unionize itself sometime down the road. I just don't know if they can do it without going Chpt11.
Re: Toyota's next step in becoming an "American" company.....
I was thinking the other day, after seeing a Toyota and Audi commercials. Toyota's "theme" is Moving Forward and Audi's "theme" is Never Follow. I thought GM/Chevy should have a "theme", Leading the Way.
I thought is sounded good and better the American Revolution, or whatever GM's is(do they even have one?).

GM's quality only rose dramatically because they had to bring it up to other competition's standards, otherwise they'd still be making 3rd gens with 305s.

Toyota just doesn't make anything that I like. The supra was OK but I would never buy one. At least it was interesting. Also the FJ cruiser or whatever belongs right under the Aztek and ridgeline on the ugly list.
