Toyota X-runner vs Silverado SS
Toyota X-runner vs Silverado SS
It looks like toyota is bringing out a blown version of their truck. It only comes with 300 hp, but it probably weighs a lot less than the Silverado SS. Toyota is claiming 0-60 in 6 seconds which is a couple tenths quicer than the Silverado SS. I don't know, the fact that toyota's sport truck is faster than chevys "SS" is kind of disturbing.
I wouldn't worry too much about the X seeing as how it's a compact truck, and the SS is a full sized truck.
I'd be a little worried if Toyota was to ever throw a supercharged v8 making 400hp, and host of other go fast goody's on to the Tundra. Now we'd be on equal playing fields since the tundra is a full sized truck too.

Not sure of the actual HP, but I'm hoping Chevy will put it on the lighter regular cab, 2wd chassis.... and drop the price about 5 grand.
Eventhough I'm not a truck guy, when I saw it in Chicago...I was pretty impressed.
When I posted this thread:

..It seemed like many here weren't too impressed.
Well, I was sure impressed! I still don't know the price...but I believe it to be well under $25K for the normally apirated version.

BTW, someone was comparing the X-Runner to the Silverado SS...which I thought wasn't fair since I don't really believe these two compete with each other. The Silverado SS is a high content, full sized, expensive truck...while the X is an intermediately sized, entry level, high perf "sports-truck".
But since we're comparing...I'm sure that the X-Runner will handily outperform the SS...especially when equipped with the TRD SC...for many thousands less than the SS.

Why does the link say it's a V6 w/ 240 hp and 275 pounds of torque? Is it based on the Tundra or Tacoma... from the pictures, its body style looks like the Tundra, but its size looks like the Tacoma. I sure hope it's not an S/C V6 and that's your only option.
Toyota is sitting on top of the most solidly designed truck V8 on the market now (except maybe for the Titan's 5.6L V8 but I don't know much about the internal on it and if they're all carried over from the flagship Q45). They released a TRD supercharger that can be dealer-installed and doesn't void the factory warranty or any extended warranties. It boosts horsepower and torque output by around 50-60% too at factory spec boost levels. If they made a truck with a sporty design theme like the one in the picture with the 4.7L i-Force and TRD supercharger factory installed, then cranked the boost a hair past current levels, they'd be sitting on top of a 400+ horsepower 470+ pound of torque monster that's only a pulley upgrade away from even greater performance levels.
That would definitely be something to take on the Silverado SS, Lightning, etc. This V6 truck is not at all IMO.

Ever seen the i-Forces used in speed boats w/ forced induction? 1100 + horsepower.
It's just not as commonly fabled of a motor as the 2JZ-GTE I6 (also capable of producing over 1000 hp reliably) because it's in a truck rather than a sports car like the Supra, and thus most Tundra owners don't do that much in the way of mods... at best maybe just the dealer-installed standard TRD supercharger running 8 psi. The guys that really prove the i-force's limits are doing it using the crate motor in things like boats and drag cars.
