And GM is basically doing nothing right now as far as I can tell. Some rebates here and there on their slow sellers but no 0% deals or anything really eye-catching.

I don't think GM can afford 0% right now. They just wrapped up employee pricing, which I think helped GM sales last month. Probably a good reason why their decline was less.

GM probably makes more money on employee pricing with standard financing rates than 0% financing, so it's a better deal for GM, if not the consumer.

Only the Tundra and Sequoia have 0% for 60 month offers. All the cars are 0% for 36 months only.

They do have 2.9% for 60 months on the cars, which is still uncharacteristically low for Toyota, though.

Lucky for you, they didn't give you any further incentive to drive a gheymobile.

If Toyota were to start handing out cars for free, I might cave in and drive one.

Otherwise, 0% or not, no thanks.

If you gave me a Toyota, I would either trailer it to the nearest Chevrolet dealership and trade it or sell it.

My wife likes her 07' Tacoma crew cab. It makes for a good family vehicle as she says she will never drive a minivan. It also is nice for tailgating, runs to Home Depot, tows the bass boat just fine, and averages 20mpg. Plus, it has more power than the Colorado/Canyon and she could get the 4wheel drive height she wanted in a 2wheel drive (Pre Runner) which meant it was cheaper and there is less to maintain/go wrong. It is also a good medium size truck if you will, which means it is not bad for her to park.

It is actually a pretty nice truck and has been problem free for 25,000 miles so far.

...until the right steering rack mounting bolts start backing out and allow play in the rack. Seen it on every newer Tacoma I've worked on. Especially on 2wd models.

I haven't seen a vehicle on Toyota's roster worth buying since they dumped the Supra and even that was grossly overpriced. I will never buy a car from a company that doesn't also make a fun weekend driver. If I buy a Cobalt or Explorer those funds help keep Chevy or Ford alive, therefore helping the Camaro or Mustang.

Hmm. What is the easiest way to tell if this occurs?

Every car/truck has problems, that's why you get a warranty and in this case, lease it.

Just for the record, the Colorado / Canyon can also be set up like a "Pre Runner." My truck has the Z71 package as a 2wd (though I really wanted to find a ZQ8 truck with the 5 cylinder / manual). It uses the Z71 wider, taller stance and the 4x4's torsion bar front suspension, but without the transfer case and front driveline.

Also, my '05 is only rated at 220 hp / 225 lb-ft, and I've never found it wanting for power. The '07+ 5 cylinder is a 3.7L rated at 242 hp. While still a few ticks behind the Tacoma V6, it offers a fuel economy advantage over the Toyota.

Offering 0% financing requires a source of cheap cash. I don't think GM has access to anything like that right now.
