I knew that I rarely see a new domestic automobile that's not a rental, but the numbers are still surprising to me. There are 6 cars in the top 20 that are not Toyotas or Hondas (by brand). 3 of them are RWD, and all are smaller than the smallest domestic RWD sedan. The number 2 selling Nissan (corporate not brand) product is the G35.
GM desperately needs that Alpha. I just hope that it sells. It doesn't look too good for the domestics

A lot of people think American cars will be in the shop all the time costing lots of $$$ to keep running.
I heard the opinion that between a $30K Chrysler 300 and a $50K Lexus (or BMW), the Chrysler owner would spend the difference in repairs.
Pretty silly stuff, but that's what the domestics are up against.
I know someone who liked the Olds Alero but bought a Camry, because -- well I'm not sure why. Perhaps peer pressure. I suggested that the Olds was less expensive, that even if it was less reliable, the money he'd save up front would more than pay for any possible repairs years down the road (after the warranty period). The Camry was what his friends told him to get.

Silicon Valley still has an abundance of high tech jobs. Most high tech employees tend to be "greener" than most Americans, so it is not surprising to see economy cars top the list. (That and the price of gas here is north of $3.20 /gal in most cases.)
I will be replacing my current BMW with an LX or a G8. I'm done with 'em.
I'm just making it up, but come on, you have to agree there are far more trucks and SUVs on the roads out here than cars. Maybe its were I drive and when I drive, but it seems like it is all trucks(especially contractors and 3/4/1 tons) and SUVs when I'm on the road around here.

That doesn't surprise me. I'd be curious to know what cars rank in the top 20 in Seattle. I see a lot of new American trucks/SUV's, but that's a small portion in comparison to all the new foreign hybrids/sedans/minivans I see all over the place. Rarely do I ever see an American sedan that's new and NOT fleet-owned.

Go down to Oklahoma or Texas sometime and you will see what I mean. I was in Bartlesville and Tulsa not too long ago and at one point I saw 45 trucks before I saw 1 car.
And to the guy thinking about replacing his BMW with an LX, I would recommend against doing that. We have a 300c and it has been terrible for reliability in electrical, interior body parts and exterior body parts. It is easily one of the worst cars we have ever had for reliability.
