Tidbits from Aus.

First bit.

had that ride in the HSV 427 yesterday morning at oran park, its bloody awesome. The engineers are testing paddle shift for future HSV models to go with the new engine coming out in a couple of years, and as the new engine will have a hell of alot more power they jerry rigged this car with prototype paddle shift system, so all i had to do was plant the foot and press a flap to change gears, thanks christ, ive never been to crash hot with manuals

they didnt know me and the word of a General Manager from one of Holdens Sub-divisions didnt sway them either so they wouldn't let me push it at all for the quarter mile or top speed. Bastards and they would even let me take a couple of photos.
Sooooo, the interesting bits. Testing a future tranny with paddle shifters with a 7L C5R. Interesting. I guess it can haddle the power ok . Could this be the 6L60-E?? I believe that the C6 Corvette will get a 'new engine' i.e LS2/LS7 and new tranny. It is nice to know that the tranny has lots of head room

last bit
they let me do 0-100kph test, i did it in 4.672 seconds on the 4th attempt, first 3 attempts i couldnt keep the wheels from spinning, the record is apparently 3.905

It's worth noting that everything being developed for production Monaros will be used in GTOs as well.

If that paddle shifter sees production in anything other than 427 HSVs, then it will be in GTOs as well.

Well if the GTO is going to be built here for the 06 model year, looks like we will miss the paddle shift option. The GTO will have nothing to do with a Monero in 06. I imagine GM will let them try it out on their line for a year to see how it works out anyways.

Not quite - 06 will see production shift to the US, but the platform at least, will continue to be developed by Holden. The Monaro and GTO will simply be reskinned versions of the same car built in different factories.

So very, very wrong on both counts.

Decromin hits on it somewhat, but it goes much farther than that!

I'd advise you to pick up August's Popular Hot Rodding when it comes out.
