It's really something about the T-Bird. A Ford sales manager was talking to me about them. When they first came out, they were charging sticker PLUS a $10K mark up. Now they are selling them for invoice, ( if they can sell them). So, if you are buying a T-Bird today, you will pay about $20K less, than the original purchasers.

I wonder if the SSR will meet the same fate?

I love the T-Bird ... but not $40,000 worth! As others have stated, there is a lot out there in that price range that offers more. I think Ford over-estimated the value of nostalgia. I think that the combination of MSRP being over-valued to begin with and then the individual dealer gouging for as much as $10,000 over sticker have contributed to the poor sales figures. Ford really promoted the T-Bird as the successor to a 50's icon. The marketing and special edition Neiman Marcus Bird helped spur the initial sales to those in search of something unique and for whom money is no object. But that is a limited audience. I live in No. Virginia right outside Washington, D.C. where money is not an object for a whole lot of folks and high-dollar vehicles are the norm. Yet, I have seen a grand total of 2 T-Birds. Have traveled many times to NY and back and seen not a one. Now, the Mustang? I think it will be a hit, retro or not. It was not developed as a "niche" car and, from what I've read, will be priced within the reach of reason.

I'm almost afraid to post here again......don't want to run out of bandwidth!

I guess what dissappoints me about the T-Bird the most is the interior. It's pretty cheap looking, especially if you get one of the color keyed ones. The cheap plastic trim is painted the same color as the exterior...making it look even cheaper.
