Thoughts on 5th gen...

Instead of people arguing about if the 5th gen is going to be retro or not.... shouldn't we be arguing if the "pony-car" market is still going to be good in 3 years? I'm betting everyone is going to get their fill of muscle cars before the 5 years it will probably take the camaro to get to show rooms. Anyone else think about this? Oh plus premium gas will probably be $4.00+

Well, the Mustang's slice of the pony market has been going good for 41 years, so I would say there will be some market in a few years.

Pony Cars may lose some popularity, but there will always be a market for them, especially if they dont jack their msrp up again. If there was any major prediction that there wouldnt be a market then I doubt DMX would be getting ready to challange mustangs in the market.

And as for gas prices...it fluctuates...sure we're at an all time high in my area right now...but just a couple months ago we were at another 'all time high' and then gas dropped 20-30cents a gallon. In 3-4 years gas may be down to a dollar a gallon again...you never know

Yeah friggin right. Please don't tell me you're one of the people that thought that little 20 cent drop (after a climb of 80 cents) brought things back to normal.

This has happened before with gas prices. I would think it would affect those w/ monster trucks and SUV's that really don't need them more than an muscle car enthusiast. Besides, our cars get pretty good mileage, I get 21-22mpg combined, only 1 or 2 mpgs less than our old Regal w/ the 3800.

Its called wishful thinking. And I'm not stupid, I knew they wouldnt stay that low for long, it lasted about 2 weeks here.

Every decade we have had at least 1 gas crunch. This isn't really anything new. If the past has taught us ANYTHING it is that yes it is high now, it will peak and eventually drop down to a typical market inflated value.

I would guess after the dust settles $2.15 for an average.

The market will still be there. The Mustang has survived through it and even thrived during some of its bad points (think Mustang II). Plus with the fact the LSx series of motors getting superb gas mileage and with the rollout and finetuning of DoD technology, gas shouldnt be too big of a deal.
